I See Red - Everybody Love an Outlaw

B

uried balls deep in Cole’s ass, both of us naked from the waist down, I lift my head to see who the intruder is, and my blood runs ice cold.Charlotte’s ice-blue eyes stare up at me with a smirk, wiggling her clawed fingers in a wave.

“Don't stop on my account,” she remarks, placing her palm on her chest.I wrestle my pants up buttoning and zipping them quickly.I step around Cole to shield him from view, allowing him to dress behind the pulpit.

"What are you doing here?"I demand, my voice shaking despite my attempt to sound authoritative.

Charlotte's smirk widens as she saunters closer, her heels clicking ominously on the hardwood floor."Oh, I think the better question is what are you doing, Caleb?”She accuses, pointing her red talon at me.

“I thought we discussed this.No more ofhim.” She looks pointedly at Cole.

“Charlotte this is between you and I leave Cole out of it.”I try.

“Not this time. You broke the deal Caleb.”She tsks.

I clench my fists at my side, I will protect Cole but I will not cower to her.“So what, what are you gonna do?”My heart pounds in my chest as Charlotte's narrowed gaze bores into me.I can feel Cole trembling behind me, his fingers brushing against my lower back.I resist the urge to reach for his hand, knowing it would only provoke Charlotte further.

"Me?"Charlotte sighs, shaking her head."This wasn't my choice Caleb, you knew what could happen. This was all you.”She says pointing at me for emphasis.I cringe but hold my ground.

“I am who I am Charlotte, no matter what you do that won’t change.”

“Oh and who exactly is that?”She asks, cocking her brow in a challenge.

“I'm a gay man, and if people want to hurt me because of that then so be it.”Though there is tension, I feel a sense of freedom saying that.Freedom from her games, from my Father's judgement and control. It gives me momentum to push further.“So what will it be, Charlotte?”

She cocks her head to the side and looks at me as if I’m pitiful.“Your delusion has truly gotten ahold of you to the point that you would risk your life andhis?”She points vaguely at Cole.

“Fuck off Charlotte!”Cole screams.

I grab his wrist to hold him in place when I feel him trying to step around me.“Quiet boy!The adults are talking.”She snaps, briefly looking at Cole.I feel him tense behind me.

"You don't get to talk to him like that," I growl, anger flaring in my chest. But Charlotte only laughs, a cold, tinkling sound that sends chills down my spine.

"I can do as I wish, Caleb.Because, unlike you, I have a say in what happens here," she purrs.

Cole scoffs but says nothing as her eyes drift to him.“Young man, you should be thanking me after all, I very generously gifted you your favorite thing!”She says with an evil smirk.

“You never gave me sh…” Cole trails off, and I see his face go ashen over my shoulder.

“What are you saying, Charlotte?”I ask, attempting to hide the tremble building in me.Charlotte runs her finger along the top of the pew before her, and my stomach twists in knots.

“Antifreeze is an interesting liquid. It used to be so sweet that children would ingest it, until 2012 when they started adding a bittering agent, kind of giving it a sour flavor.”I gape at her, and Cole whispers behind me.

“The Mio bottles. It was you, wasn’t it?”Cole whispers, his grip tight on my shirt. She gives a little chuckle and shrugs.

"You could have killed him!"I scream my fury at the surface, now only Cole, trembling behind me, is stopping me from lunging at her.

Charlotte's face is a mask of indifference."That was the intention, yes."She says so simply, I choke on the reply.Who is this woman? This menacing, vile person, whom I considered a friend at one time.

I hear Cole's breath hitch as he trembles. My anger boils over, and I take a step toward Charlotte, fists clenched at my sides."You're insane," I spit out."Do you think I won't report you immediately to the Sheriff?”Terrified and raging all at once.

Charlotte's laugh is like shattered glass."Go ahead, " she challenges, eyes glinting with malice, her lips twisted into a grotesque smirk.“Caleb, I have warned you and you continually underestimate me.You have no idea who you’re dealing with.”Charlotte's words hang in the air like a poisonous fog.

I feel Cole's fingers dig into my back, his breath coming in short, panicked gasps. The reality of what she's done and what she's capable of crashes over us both.

"You see, Caleb, in this town, I am God."She growls, taking a step closer, nearly in front of the stage now."And you? You're just a fallen angel, desperately clinging to your pretty little toy."
