“If you’re not going to be any help, I’d like to point out that you should probably be working.”
“I accomplished a little while you were gone, and I’ll have return to it later, but I want to do this first. We’re going to have to shop for shelves.”
“Figure out what you want, and I’ll go get it.”
“See, you can do all kinds of fun tasks with your time off.”
“I was thinking more that we can’t be seen in public together.”
Annoyed with that idea, Mitchell grunted as he sorted commendations. “You can get the kitchen organized. You’ve got dishes, weird-ass contraptions, and sharp things that will need to find a home.”
“Most people don’t think of toasters as weird-ass contraptions, Brooks. But yeah, I can finally set up a kitchen the exact way I want it organized. Fate knows there are plenty of drawers and cabinets. I’m already thinking I’ll have space to buy some things on my wish list.”
“You have a kitchen wish list?”
“I like to cook.”
“You’re very good at it. I’ve never eaten so well,” Mitchell told him, lovingly smoothing his fingertips across an award that included a photo of Pierson in his dressiest uniform. No one looked as good as his mate.
“I took some classes.”
“Of course you did; you wouldn’t be content with opening a cookbook and experimenting. Are you calm enough now to tell me what else the RKs said?”
“My office is going to be near the other JKs.”
“Good, I can sneak in and steal kisses.”
“They’re going to discuss me with you this week.”
“What exactly did you say to them, Juris Knight Murphy?”
Pierson was sorting the files Mitchell had shoved aside to lay out plaques and frames, refusing to meet his gaze. “They wanted to know if I thought we could bury the hatchet ourselves or if we’d need a professional to come in and counsel us. I told them I’d talk to you.”
“Did you tell them you were coming here today?”
“Of course not.”
“I suppose you didn’t mention that I had to pick up your wet towel off the tiles this morning either.”
“You’re the one who yanked it from my waist and threw it down,” Pierson retorted with a brow lifted. “And you only did that so you could bend over in front of me to show off your ass.”
“You enjoyed the view, didn’t you?”
“I won’t argue the point, Brooks.”
“I’ll be happy to tell the RKs that I’d like to speak with you upon your return and try to move forward in a cordial fashion.”
“If we had a meeting in Vegas on my first morning, then we don’t have to pretend to be enemies or anything like that. I don’t want either of us put in a position where we have to fake our way through that bullshit.”
“Agreed, and quite frankly I’m not sure I can snap and snarl at you like I did in the past.”
“You still call me Blondie.”
“Because you like it.”
“I don’t know what makes you think you’re suddenly an expert on me.”
“Would you not consider yourself well-versed on my moods, likes, and dislikes?”
