“If you wish to stay on Treasure Ridge, houses five, seven, and thirteen are open. We will be adding another row of streets behind the hellhounds, but it takes a bit of time. I apologize that there aren’t more options. There is a neighborhood off the mountain. It’s gated and is completely paranormal, but you still have to be careful when shifting.” Master Edison chuckled. “Well, you won’t. Todd would. Cheetahs aren’t native to the area.”

I smiled. “No, they’re not. Todd feels safe on Treasure Ridge. I’ll ask him about looking at the houses when he’s awake and recovered.” I cleared my throat. “Should I be worried, do you know? His heat lasted six days, and he’s still asleep.”

I heard Master Edison’s muffled voice. Then he was quickly back on the call. “Do not worry about him unless he sleeps for more than a day or two. His cheetah should wake him for basic needs after a certain amount of time. A heat as long as his was will require a lengthy recovery time. He’ll sleep, then it might very well take him several days to fully recover. If you become concerned, contact Maxwell.”

“I’ll do that. Thank you, Master Edison. For all of your help and guidance. There is a lot for Todd and me to discuss when he’s up for it.”

“I’ll leave it up to you to broach the subject of his siblings. Personally, I feel it should wait, but you know your mate better than I do.”

“Thank you. I’m not planning on springing it on him right away, but I feel it is something we should talk about before toomuch longer.” It was something that Alpha Babak should have discussed with Todd, but I understood why he hadn’t. Todd was their blood family, and he wasn’t a horrible person. But I knew the stress he’d been going through trying to force himself to be ready for his siblings living with him. He’d tried, and it had been too much. “I should go,” I said absently. “I have a lot to think about and even more to do before Todd wakes.”

A quick peek through our bond told me that Todd was still just as asleep as he was when I rolled out of bed and into the shower earlier.

“I won’t keep you, but please reach out if you need anything for either of you.”

“I will. Thank you again, Master Edison. I appreciate the time you’ve given me.”

“I’m here for all of you,” he said.

The call ended with that, and I placed my phone back on the desk. It was a lot to take in, and I wasn’t sure how to bring it up with Todd, but I knew there was no way I could keep such information from him.

I would think about that later though. For now, I needed to tend to laundry. Master Edison had taken care of some, but there was still more, and then there was the need to plan meals for us for the next several days. I didn’t know how long it would take Todd to recover, but I was almost certain he wasn’t going to bounce back immediately. With those thoughts in mind, I left the office to go be domestic. Some would be upset about that, but not me. I was smiling the entire way to the laundry room.

Chapter 14

Todd

Ifelt warm and safe. Both were somewhat new feelings, but I knew I had my mate to thank for both of them. I also suddenly felt my stomach roll, and I frantically pushed at Briggs’s arm that was wrapped around my stomach so I could make a dash for the bathroom. I made it, but just barely before I was bending over the toilet and emptying absolutely nothing except bile into it. Lovely.

I heard Briggs coming in behind me but was too busy heaving again to acknowledge him. He grabbed hold of my shoulders and helped me down to the floor, which was actually a better place to be.

“What can I do to help?” Briggs asked. “Water? Cool cloth?” His hands left my shoulders as another wave hit me. “I should call Maxwell.”

I wanted to argue, but I was too busy throwing up. The last thing I wanted at the moment was to see my boss. We were supposed to be strengthening our bond. We had two more weeks of time off. Why would I want to talk to my boss?

“Okay, Maxwell said he’d be here in just a few. He wasn’t at the clinic yet, and he needed to finish getting dressed.”

I flicked my hand at my mate, not really caring what was going on with my boss at the moment. I just wanted to stop hurling because it was becoming increasingly painful. I was no stranger to throwing up. I would often get sick because of what they would give me in the compound I was held at, but this was different. I’d not been given any sort of drugs.

“Is it all right to come in?” I heard a familiar voice call out from somewhere behind me.

“Yes. He’s throwing up,” Briggs said. “We were sleeping, and then he just bolted out of bed.”

I heard Dr. King coming closer. “Yes, that tends to happen when omegas get claimed by their alpha mates.”

I turned my head slightly to the side. “Make…stop.” I turned just in time for another bout to come up. For all of the effort it took, there was very little that came out, and it tasted absolutely vile.

“I can do that,” Dr. King said. His hand started glowing green, and I felt myself suddenly become drowsy again, and then it was lights-out.

I came to, once again lying in the comfortable bed that I shared with Briggs. Dr. King was there, and right beside him was a concerned-looking Briggs. “I’m all right. I think.” I turned my head and moaned at the sudden pressure. “Why do I feel like I’ve been thrown from a tree?”

“I’ll ask later how it is that you know what it feels like to get thrown from a tree. Right now, I want you to sit up and drink this. Do you need your mate to help?”

I growled. “Probably.”

Immediately, Briggs reached for me and slowly helped me into a sitting position. He moved the pillows so they were both behind me, and I leaned back and closed my eyes while the room started spinning. “Why do I feel so terrible?”

“Because you are pregnant and experiencing morning sickness. Actually, it’s most likely going to be pregnancy sickness and can happen anytime of the day, so we’re going to get ahead of it now with the special tea.”
