“Are you okay?” His tone is much softer now as his grip on me loosens and the hall light flicks on. Worry darkens his face.

“What the hell are you doing in here, lurking in the dark?” I choke out, finding my voice.

He’s so close, his hands at his side now, but his massive frame inches from me as he towers over me.

“I’ve been calling you. Your brother has been calling you. The twins posted a strange story on social media that you were acting weird, and then you took off. And no one has heard from you in over an hour!”

“Are you kidding me right now?” I grunt

“Do you think I’d be here if I didn’t think there was some kind of emergency?”

I stalk into the house, pulling my purse off my shoulders. “I just went to meet them for a drink.”

“Why didn’t you answer your phone?”

I fall onto the couch. “I needed to think,” I admit, looking up at him. “Aren’t you on guard duty with the rest of the pack tonight?”

“Yes. That means looking after my territory. Everyone in my territory.”

He joins me on the couch, sitting much closer than he usually does.

I want to tell him to move away, but the words stick in my throat. I’ve been physically pining for him, and his closeness is a balm for my soul, however fleeting it is.

The worry in his brilliant blue irises doesn’t diminish. “You’re part of my pack, Brynn.”

I grimace and start to lower my head, but he captures my chin in his thumb and forefinger.

“No!” he growls. “Don’t look away. You scared me tonight. I thought something happened to you.”

My heart catches, and I bite on my lower lip. “I’m sorry,” I breathe. “I didn’t know you were looking for me. Honestly, I didn’t do it to worry you.”

His face softens more as he reads the sincerity on my face, but he says nothing.

Our gazes lock, the heat pulsating between us, and I know… our willpower is breaking down.

“Nox—”

“I want you,” he growls, his eyes glowing ethereally, a peculiar expression overtaking his face. “This longing I have for you, it’s not going away. And the way I felt tonight. If something happens to you, Brynn…”

“I know,” I whisper.

“We’re supposed to be together.” It’s not a question.

I can’t take it anymore.

Alpha or not, willpower or not, I have to taste his lips before I go. I push myself forward and crush my lips to his, silencing him as I knock him back slightly. The motion takes him aback, but he responds instead of pushing me away, his mouth parting.

Strong arms encircle my waist, finally drawing me fully against his muscled form, and waves of warmth wash over me.

This. This was what I wanted, what I needed, and craved from the moment our bond snapped into place.

Nox falls back against the couch cushions, and I straddle him, my ponytail sliding along his cheek as our kiss deepens, tongues teasing and exploring. His hands cup the curve of my ass, massaging firmly but gently, grinding me over his hardness.

He’s huge, just as I imagined he would be, the heat of him radiating through my panties as my skirt rides higher.

I pull back, albeit reluctantly, my eyes again meeting his as I wait for him to end this. His eyes blaze with determination, and I know there’s no stopping what we’ve started now. He’s already held out as long as he could.

“You’re so fucking beautiful, Brynn,” he growls, seizing me by the waist to flip me over.
