Kelsey pulled away from his chest and he could see tears in her eyes. Oh fuck no. “Unchi, Mommy’s friend is mean.” At Kelsey’s words, Erin started crying. Garrett was going to be killing someone soon, he could tell.
“Did he hurt you?” Please goddess no. Erin shook her head not moving from his chest at all.
“He yelled and then Mommy took us to play. I don’t like that game and it scareded Erin,” Kelsey told him, reaching out to touch her sister.
The sound of the station door opening had Garrett looking up. He could see in the doc’s eyes that he’d heard some of what the girls had said. There was a steel to his brown eyes that hadn’t been there before. Garrett couldn’t blame him one bit. He was about to go off on someone but first he needed to reassure his nieces.
“Who wants some chocolate chip cookies?” Garrett asked, giving a pointed look at Doc. The doctor seemed to get his message and nodded.
“Oooh, me! Me!” Doc said in a falsetto, raising his hand in the air. The girls turned toward the man and started to giggle. Garrett let out a breath. If they were laughing, then they were going to be okay. He couldn’t say that about Kim’s new friend but that was for later.
“Unchi? I have too? And sissy?” Erin asked quietly. Garrett placed a kiss on Erin’s forehead and then Kelsey’s.
“I think we all deserve some chocolate. Up you go. Climb into the chairs. Doc and I will get milk and cookies for all of us. Won’t we, Doc?”
“Nothing I’d like better,” Doc responded.
