Rob put down his phone as Garrett opened the driver side door. As Garrett slid into the SUV, a wave of heat washed over Rob. That was weird, the car wasn’t even on. Garrett froze in place, reaching to put the key in the ignition and looked at Rob before he shook his head.

“All set, Doc.” Garrett started the car, backed out of the driveway and then pushed a button on the steering wheel. “Call Uncle Mario.” The sound of a phone ringing filled the car.

“To what do I owe the pleasure of mynepotcalling me in the middle of a weekday?” A man’s voice came through the speakers.

“Got some free time this afternoon, Uncle Mario? I’ve got a few situations for you,” Garrett said, looking pointedly at Rob.

Rob had to resist rolling his eyes. Sue him, he wasn’t a shifter, so he wasn’t up on the protocols. Yeah, he knew about the existence of shifters like everyone else, but he didn’t know their customs. Not his research area.

“Coming to visit, are you?” Garrett’s uncle replied.

“I am and I’m bringing someone to meet you. Be there in a few minutes,” Garrett said as he took a left turn.

“Okay. I’m here. Do I need the Quad?” he asked.

“Not yet, I don’t think. On Howard Ave, two minutes.” Garrett pushed the button on the wheel again, ending the call. “Ready to meet the Alpha?”

“Sure, why not? This day can’t get any stranger, right?” Rob asked.

“You never know, Doc. You never know.” Garrett winked at Rob.
