He took another bite of his bacon.

“I am sorry if we make you uncomfortable,” I offered. “With everything going down the way in which it did.”

Keir gave me a shrug. “Is it weird? I don’t want to lie to you, so yes, it is. It might always be, but I’ll be fine. I adore you. I love him. I want what’s best for not only Wylan, but also just my twin brother.” He paused and added. “It is awkward, yes, but that is of my own concern, not yours. You would have to be blind to not see the connection the two of you have.”

Tears burned my eyes. “Thank you.”

“You are good for him in so many different ways. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen him take the time to smell the roses.” Keir snorted a laugh and shook his head. “And for the record, I’m fairly certain his feelings for you were real from the very start. I’ve known him our whole lives. He’s an awful actor.”

I laughed and wiped at my eyes. “Tell me we are all going to be okay. That I didn’t ruin your relationship with your brother. And that we will all figure out a way out of this.”

“Krew and I will be fine, Jorah,” Keir said gently. “Promise.”

“What about the rest?” I sniffed, taking a sip of my tea gently, as to not move my hurt shoulder.

Keir cocked his head. “I told you, I don’t wish to lie to you. Even if it is the most beautiful lie.” He paused and put up a sound barrier around the three of us, blocking the healer, wherever he was, from hearing. “If this week solidifies anything, it’s that my father is getting more dangerous and more impulsive the longer he stays on the throne. We’ve got to get that crown off his head. One way or another.”

Owen came rushingin as Keir and I were finishing up lunch. Keir had left for a little while to go check in with his father, leaving his personal guards with me, and then returned with lunch. Owen put up a sound barrier and turned to me. “I’m so sorry. You should have woken me.”

I glared at him. “Seriously? You needed the sleep.”

“I would’ve been fine,” he said defensively.

I saw a line imprint across his face, one cheek being more red than the other. “Did you just wake up, Owen?”

Owen nodded. “Yes. And that couch was not all that comfortable for this long.”

I laughed. “I imagine not.”

As if having heard my voice, Krew twitched, moving his hand in my direction a few inches.

I wanted to reach out and touch his hand, let him know I was there, but I couldn’t. And it was killing me.

“Krew is still out?” Owen asked.

I sighed. “Yes. Sleeping far harder than I’ve ever seen him.”

“That’s likely the tonic,” Keir offered.

Knowing how much getting something in my stomach had settled me, I told Owen, “Go shower and get some food. I’ll be right here.”

“Fine,” he agreed. “But I’m bringing Silvia with me when I come back.”

“I’m not sure I want to wear anything on my shoulder today,” I told Owen.

He gave me a shrug. “Okay. Jammies it is. I’ll still bring her anyway.”

I smirked at his word choice.

An hour later, Silvia came in with a fresh pair of silk pajamas and a few toiletries.

“Brush up, and then I’ll apply ointment to your shoulder.”

The woman had brought my toothbrush. I was so happy I could’ve kissed her.

“Your shoulder?” the healer asked from his desk.
