We stood like that for minutes, until the healer finally made us move.
The healer escorted Krew to the lavatory shortly after, apparently not trusting him to not disappear on us. Krew’s blatant disdain had me smirking. Krew was a far better patient unconscious.
“That could’ve gone better,” I offered to Owen as soon as they were far enough away.
Owen nodded. “Agreed. That was a lot of magic.”
“It was?” I asked. “It didn’tlooklike a lot.”
Owen shook his head while looking at me. “I know, but he shook the ground, Jorah.”
“Of the room or of this level?” I swallowed. “Or of the entire castle?”
Owen shrugged. “I don’t know. I knew he was getting stronger, but if that little magic can shake the ground like that, he’s a lot stronger than I even thought.”
I considered that. If that was a little magic and I took only a drop in bonding to him, would I be just as powerful as some of the regular Enchanted in Savaryn?
Krew returned from the lavatory. “Let’s go home. To our wing. Unfortunately, this pest is coming with.”
I smiled at the poor man. “Are you going to sleep between us too? To make sure I don’t touch him?”
The healer’s cheeks went red. “If I must.”
I laughed.
Krew was giving me the strangest look.
“What?”
“How are you laughing right now? After what happened?”
I took a moment to respond. “I don’t know. I guess I refuse to let your father take that from me too.”
CHAPTER38
Iwoke from a deep sleep to find the curtains pulled across, darkening the room. I reached my arm under the pillow barrier I’d insisted on only to find the bed already empty.
I sat up straight in the bed, entirely too fast as I felt it in my head while I looked around for Krew.
But he was gone.
“He went to meet with his father and get it over with,” Owen offered from the couch.
“I can’t believe I slept through him leaving,” I mumbled more to myself than to him.
“You were tired,” Owen offered. “And he asked us not to wake you.”
“Us?”
“The healer is also with Krew. Following him around like his life depends on it.” Owen started to smirk, but then his face fell. “But it might, actually. I wouldn’t put it past ourbenevolentking to tell him if Krew died, he would also.”
I leaned against the headboard. “I’m not ready for this day.”
Owen smiled and stood. “I’ll send for Silvia. I already fed Rafe this morning. Have a soak while I order us breakfast.”
I took him up on that offer. The warm bath water felt great, particularly because I could be in it and leave my shoulder out of it.
“I think we need to do strapless for the Solstice ball next week,” Silvia said from behind me as she gently sponged over my shoulder area. “Just in case it’s not fully healed.” She paused. “But then your bruising will be showing for all to see.”
