“Thanks, Cuz,” Chase barked over his shoulder.
I grinned, seeing my shot.
I lunged forward and jumped, using my agility to wrap my legs around Chase’s waist, hoisting myself so my head was a foot above his.
Chase stumbled from the unanticipated, extra weight. I took advantage of his distraction and rained punches down on his pretty face.
“Gah!” Chase attempted to lean back to evade my hits, but I leaned forward and continued my assault.
His muscled arms came up to protect his face, so I slid down his torso and began punching his ribs.
Chase snarled.
I was airborne as Chase jumped backwards, up into the air.
A tiny yelp escaped me. I tried to detangle my legs before they were crushed when his back finally hit the ground.
I managed to get my shins out of the way before we hit, but my knees crashed against the ground. Pain vibrated through my legs and lower back.
I planted my hands on his chest and shoved, trying to put distance between us, but Chase was too fast. His hands curled around my shoulders, then he twisted and threw me onto the ground. Impact knocked the wind from my lungs.
Chase leapt over me, straddling my hips, pinning them to the ground.
I writhed, throwing haphazard slaps towards his face. I landed a few, but they did nothing to dislodge the massive shifter. He caught both of my hands, locked them into one firm grip, then wrapped his free hand around my throat.
“Yield,” he barked.
I tried to wrap my flailing legs around his chest to yank him back, but the way Chase sat on my hips prevented the range of motion the maneuver required.
Chase leaned closer. His fingers tightened. “I said, yield.”
A growl vibrated in my throat, accompanied by my wolf’s snarl.
Before Chase could react, someone asked, “Care to tell me why you’re straddling the pack’s future alpha mate, cousin?”
I didn’t recognize the masculine voice, and I couldn’t turn my head to see who it was. Chase’s wolf wouldn’t let him release me until I submitted.
“Just a friendly sparring session, Ax. You know how it goes.”
My muscles locked up.
Ax?
As in… Axel?
My gaze shifted to the right, trying to catch a glimpse of the male I was promised to mate, but Axel was out of my line sight. Chase’s grip grew tighter when I tried to turn my neck to see him.
I returned my glare to the blond shifter.
“Yield, Blair.”
I snarled.
It only made him smile.
Knowing I had no other choice, I bared my teeth and bit out, “Yield.”
Immediately, Chase removed his hand and pulled me to my feet. I stumbled from the quick maneuver, but steadied myself as I turned to see my future mate for the very first time.
