“Because I want to thank you properly one day.”

“Yeah, I’m not giving you my number. I really have to go.”

“Kemah, your number,” he demands this time. I shake my head and step back, turning on my heel to leave. I shove the curtain out of the way and rush out of the area.

I make it back to the waiting room and blow out a huge breath. I don’t know how I didn’t realize how good he looked when we were in the ambulance. Maybe I was distracted by what the paramedics were doing. Maybe I was lost in my own little world. Doesn’t matter now, though. That was that. I won’t see him again.

I walk out of the hospital and pull my cell from my pocket to get an Uber. Then I walk over and lean against the wall of the hospital when I hear the roar of what sounds like motorcycles. After a few seconds, I see a bunch pull into the parking lot and park. Men climb off and stalk toward the doors. I take them in as they pass me, one giving me a smile and another nodding at me. I let my eyes roam over them and read the back of the cut they have on.

“Soulless Bastards,” I murmur. I’ve never heard of them before, but the guy who got hit had one of those on. I’m assuming these are the other club members.

I lean back against the wall when I see a car pulling up in front of me. When I realize it’s my Uber, I walk over and start to climb in, but I see one of those guys come back out.

“Hey!” he calls out. I look over my shoulder and see him looking directly at me. “You! Wait a minute!” He roars. Fuck that! I jump in the Uber and tell them to hurry the hell up and get us out of here. I don’t know if he’s mad I was with his friend or what, but he looks pissy.

The Uber takes off, and I look out the window in time to see the man rushing toward us, but it’s the car is moving before he can reach us.

“Friends of yours?” the driver asks.

“No. I’m not sure what he wanted.”

“Then it’s a good thing we took off,” he adds as he keeps driving. I rattle off the address and sit back in my seat, thankful that we got the hell out of there when we did. I don’t know what he would have done if we didn’t.

We pull up at the house, and I cringe. I see Jake’s car in the driveway, and I know I’m going to have to deal with his drunken bullshit, too.

I sigh as I pay and climb out of the car, walking to the front door. Before I ever make it, it flies open, and I gasp. I wasn’t expecting to see my dad here. In fact, I hadn’t planned on seeing him ever.

“Where the hell have you been?”

“What do you care?” I say as I walk up the steps and right past him. He grabs my arm and jerks me back, causing me to stumble.

“You answer me!”

“You sold me!” I remind him. He huffs and lets go of my arm when I walk away from him.

“You’re going to answer me.”

“I don’t have to. I don’t belong to you,” I remind him. Now he laughs.

“You belong to me just like Jake does. I fucking own you,” he growls. I turn to face him when I see Jake. He looks as pissed as my dad does, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to tell them shit.

“She jumped into the back of an ambulance with a strange man.”

“A man who was just hit by a car!”

“Did you know him?” My dad asks.

“No.”

“Then why were you needed?”

“I wasn’t. It just felt like the right thing to do.”

“The right thing to do? Are you fat and stupid? Is that it?” My dad screams at me.

“I’m not stupid,” I snarl, keeping my head held high.

“Then why are you just now getting here?”
