Vadric and I stayed like that in the chair. He held me against his chest with his cock softening inside of me. As my breathing returned to normal, I could feel his cum and my juices leaking out of my cunt around his dick. It might have seemed gross, but I enjoyed the silent intimacy of the moment.
“I’m not sure I’ll be able to walk for the rest of the day,” I mumbled against Vadric’s chest while fighting off the urge to take a nap right there.
He barked with laughter, and I felt it in his chest under my cheek. His hand continued caressing my back as his tail coiled loosely around my ankle. “That’s alright, little one. I’ll carry you wherever you need to go.”
Twenty-Nine
With the heavy tension of war over our heads, Vadric and I only had one more week together. I didn’t know it yet, and it allowed me to enjoy the days we spent together.
Vadric showed me how to run the numbers, and I jumped in, eager to take that project over. There were some whispered complaints from the others, though no one would say anything outright to their Lord. Not when they didn’t want to do the job themself.
It made me feel useful during the day helping to manage the math behind Vadric’s impending war. Counting supplies and looking over how many total volunteers there were working in the fortress were simple. I had something to take my mind off the rest of the monstrous world and the stray eyes that watched me.
Baron Knox and Ilya spent most of their time on their own. Catching up and rekindling what Vadric called a mate-bond. Only when the castle gathered in the great hall for dinner at night did I see them again, though I knew Vadric consulted with Knox sparingly as they geared up for the next step in planning.
Ilya mostly pretended I didn’t exist. That was fine with me, since I didn’t want her to remember that she could pop my head clean off my shoulders. Though I didn’t miss when she glanced at me, as if observing me when I was in Vadric’s lap at dinner. Maybe she realized that the first time Vadric smiled all day was when he saw me. Even if I didn’t know that myself.
Sitting on Vadric’s lap at dinner led to more of the best sex of my life every night when he took me to his bed. There were countless things we taught each other night after night. It was a miracle I could walk some mornings.
The claw and bite marks were an almost permanent marker on my skin, and I loved seeing them. During the day, I’d get distracted from running math on food supplies when my eyes would notice the claw marks on my wrist from the night before.
None of the other monsters in the castle looked at me twice when they noticed them. It gave me the freedom to walk around on my own when Vadric was busy. He was the stoic, dominating Lord of Nadirn during the day while I helped in the way I could. A human accountant running the numbers for a monster war. This might have been the strangest twist in my life if not for the fact I was getting railed by the demon Lord every night.
There was so much for me to learn. When I wasn’t doing math, I was learning more about the world and creatures around me. It was still difficult for me to tell the time of day, but I learned that the monsters of this world were called Nefellim. One of their kind inspired almost every monster on Earth. All the myths rooted in some twisted truth.
The fortress had an old library where I found ancient books on the history of this nightmare world and the Nefellim. In the afternoons before dinner, that’s where Vadric usually found me flipping through pages and taking notes.
The day I found a book on the last human to fall through a portal into this world was also the last day I’d see Vadric before he left. I wish I had known it then. When he walked into the library, I set the book down the instant I recognized the sound of his footsteps.
“You are positively glowing over these books, little one.” Vadric kneeled beside the desk I’d been reading at under the red light from a paned glass window.
“Well, I figured if I’m going to be living here, I might as well learn as much as I can. There are tons of ancient history books in here.” I met his stare and held up the heavy book in my lap. “There’s mention of the last human in here. If I keep reading, maybe I’ll find out what happened to him.”
Those yellow eyes slowly assessed my face. I think he was reading my emotions and body language. The time before he replied went a second too long, and I wondered what Vadric was thinking as his brows pinched together.
“Why do you want to know what happened to the last human here?” he finally asked.
“Maybe it could give me some clue what to expect. Did he make a life for himself and live out his days among the Nefellim, or was he tortured and eaten?” I shrugged a shoulder and set the book back on the desk. Aimlessly, I ran my fingers over the embroidered leather cover.
“You still think that I’d let anyone lay a finger on you, Mina?” Vadric’s rough voice made me whip my head around to him. “No matter what happened to the last human, I won’t allow you to be eaten or tortured.”
“No, it’s not that. I know you’ll protect me.” I reached out and placed my palm on his cheek. No hesitation, even with the split in his face that could reveal his sharp teeth. Lord Vadric Ascian didn’t scare me anymore. He hadn’t for a while now.
“What are you looking for, little one?” There was something in his expression I couldn’t read.
“I’m just researching. Trying to learn as much as I can.” What I really needed to know was if I could be happy here.
When I looked at Vadric, and thought about our time together, a hidden part of me knew I could be. It was only a whisper in the back of my mind, deep in the fissures of my cracked, healing heart. Losing my family and my entire world was still a recent pain, but I couldn’t mourn forever.
Whatever it was in my chest pulling me to Vadric, whatever strange need connected us, it might be enough to help me recover from what I lost. There was more than desire between us. I knew that now after weeks together. Something I wasn’t ready to name.
But happiness with him? It was possible. Something in my soul shouted that at me, though I couldn’t quite hear it yet.
“If I’m going to live in this world, I need to learn everything I can. I’m still trying to figure out how to tell the time of day or how the hierarchy among your people works. The things you told me when we met only opened the door. I have to be the one to step through.” As I spoke, my fingers traced the line on his cheek, then over his full bottom lip.
“I can understand that, then. Learn to your heart’s content, little one.” Vadric caught my wrist suddenly, and my eyes widened. He pressed the tip of my wandering finger to his lips and kissed it. That made a bright blush spread over my cheeks.
“Thank you. Besides, I… I… I enjoy reading.” My words faltered as Vadric sucked my finger into his mouth. I felt the wet heat of his tongue wrapping around my finger while his eyes stared deep into mine.
