Or maybe …Hook me up with the hot brunette?

Grrrr!

Chapter 6

Meet & Greet

Griffon

The crowd’s thinned to just staff, players, and the influencers the team invited. It’s quieter now but still buzzing in that way it does after a good win, even if this wasn’t a game.

I spot Izzy near the bar, glaring at the brunette who’s decked out in a Knights cropped jacket with a tulle skirt and gold-heeled boots. Definitely not local. Definitely not subtle.

No one is stepping in, so I make my way over, curiosity pulling me harder than I’ll admit, but more than that. Someone’s giving Iz a hard time, and it’s not me.

Izzy sees me first. “Hey,” she says, easy as ever, like I didn’t just beeline past the entire team to take her six.

She turns to the other girl. “Lexi, this is Skinner, number fifty-four.”

Lexi whips around with a grin that should be illegal. “Thetight-shirted legend himself?” She sticks out her hand like we’ve known each other forever. “Lexington Hines.”

I shake it. “Skinner.”

“Yeah, I got that,” she says, eyes glinting. “You’re taller than you look on livestream. Not mad about it.”

Izzy doesn’t react. Not a twitch. She just stands there, calm and unreadable. Shockingly, this annoys me more than it should. Because if this thing between us was just surface-level tension, just a reaction to proximity and endorphins, she’d flinch. She’d glare. She’d fight. But instead, she’s cool. Like none of this bothers her. Like it doesn’t matter at all.

Lexington bumps her with a grin. “Relax. I won’t steal your franchise player. I’m more of a free agent.”

Izzy smiles sweetly. “That’s cute. I’m more of a commissioner, I make the calls.”

I clear my throat before the tension thickens.

Izzy looks back at me. “Lexington Hines?”

“I got that, but …” I pause as it hits and smile. “Legacy fam. London’s sister.”

“And this is why I had to leave Blue Valley. London’s sister?” She pretends to be annoyed.

“Would you rather I say, daughter of the rock star currently glaring at me, probably trying to figure out how to get me traded for breathing the same air as you?”

She laughs. “Also, I had to leave Blue Valley. I needed to freaking breathe.”

“You left because you got into the most prestigious music college in the world.” Izzy smiles at her. “Chat later.” Then, to me, “You’re first in the rotation of interviews.”

“Thanks, Iz.” I look back at Lexi. “Nice meeting you.”

“Oh, we met, player. I just hadn’t glowed up yet.”

I scrub a hand over my smile to hide it, because I think this may be the first time I’m at a loss for words. “Was it back before I could fill out a shirt like this?” I joke.

She laughs.

I hold out a fist. “We glowed up good.”

She taps it.

“See you around.”
