“Am no spying. Am protecting ma mate. I don't want anyhin’ harmin’ her or any man trying tae hit on her. Plus, ah want tae get tae know her.”
The thought of another man’s scent on our mate made Conall growl.
Calm doon, Conall. I said to him through our link.
“Aye, sure yae are. What’s in yer fancy boax?” Callum asked.
I leapt up and snatched it up before he could touch it.
“Why don't you pair ay clowns go back hame? Yer stressin’ me oot,” I said, clutching the wooden box to my chest.
Callum raised his hands in surrender, but Ewan chuckled.
“Yer da would claw oor faces aff before sending us back tae yae.”
He was right. Da might be the retired Alpha, but he was still a force to be reckoned with. My parents were fiercely protective.
“Make yurselves useful and go get some food in.”
I was resigned to the fact that I was cursed to deal with their shite a while longer.
“Did yay see him grab that boax? He wuz like that wee fella from Lord of the Rings,” Ewan said as he walked out of the room.
“Aye. Cum’ere ma wee precious,” Callum mimicked.
“Yer a pair ay feckin bastards. I hope when yae find yur mates they kick yer wee bawsacks in,” I shouted after them, but their laughter echoed in the flat before I heard the door slam shut.
I pulled up my new employment contract to review the details. Nia’s home life was covered, and it was time to see her working environment without her noticing me. My hair would need to be tied back, and I wouldn't speak if she were within earshot. My accent stood out like a sore thumb.
I enjoyed seeing her in her fancy heels and tight pencil skirts. The grey skirt clung to her arse like my hands would. Soon.
Every inch of her is flawless. Conall agreed with me, but I could feel his softness towards Nia.
We’ve been given a great blessing, Conall. We cannot mess this up under any circumstances. I said to him.
He didn't respond, but I felt his mooning change to acceptance. I couldn't have him tear out of me because my wolf would terrify Nia.
Our bed was next to Nia’s and close to the vent. It was beyond infuriating to know that only one wall separated us. Sometimes, I would fall asleep with my hand on the wall. Others, I lay my ear against it to listen to her.
She was driving me crazy, and she didn’t even know it.
???
“Yer ma wuz pregnant wae you within two months, son. How long ar’ yae goin'tae take?” My dad said. “We’re desperate tae meet the wee lassie.”
“Da yae ken she isnae a shifter. Ah cannae huv’ her doing a runner on me. Ah huv’ tae work ma way intae her world ‘n that’s gonae take some time.”
“Och, son. It dusnae matter wit she is. She’s family. Your mate and that makes her part ay oor pack. I think yer maw just wants a wee bairn tae hold again.”
I almost sighed in relief at his response. “Thanks, Da. Is everything going well at the distillery?”
“Aye, yer maw’s been helping out. It’s put a wee spring in her step.”
I smiled at the thought of them working together again.
“That’s gud. Gie her ma love.”
“Alright, son. Good luck tae ye.”
