Lyall

Two Years Later

Isat Fenreika on my arm, keeping my daughter close to me. Conall howled, torn between our pup and Nia coming into heat. I swallowed the lump in my throat, knowing my parents were coming to collect her soon. My angel tugged my hair.

“Dadada,” she said, her angelic smile spreading across her face.

Her dark brown eyes were as stunning as her mother's. Her hair, a mixture of ours, was swept in a side parting, and the soft curls rested on her neck. I wouldn't see her for three to four days.

Logically, I knew that during a rut, I would only be focused on my mate, but would Fenreika feel abandoned by her parents?

The front door slammed shut.

“Hellooo, where's ma wee yin? Fenreika, granny and grandpa are here fur ye,” Da’s voice bellowed in the hallway.

Fenreika let out a high-pitched squeal and pushed me away until I reluctantly put her down. She wobbled before she raced away from me.

“Oooh, ma wee darlin’. cum’ere ye’ve grown so tall, ma wee princess,” Maw said.

I listened while staring at her bright orange sippy cup. Nia’s voice joined my parents. I took a few moments to compose myself.

“Lyall?” Nia whispered. “Are you okay?”

Her fragrance penetrated my defences. Our bond throbbed as heavily as the coming heat and rut.

“It's only a few days, darling,” she said softly as her arms wrapped around my waist and her heat soaked into my back.

Fenreika’s laughter filtered through to the kitchen.

“Aye,” I sighed like a defeated Alpha before resentment stabbed at me. “Let’s gie ma wean away.”

“Lyall, she won't even notice—”

“She willnae be under ma watch. What if—” I snapped, cutting her off.

“Your parents will be there for her. Ewan and Callum will stand guard at all times.”

I was about to speak when I felt her shudder from a heat cramp. Slick. Her slick was filling the air. A low rumbling growl emerged from my chest as my body answered her call.

“Another baby, Lyall,” she whispered, her fingers travelling lower. “Give me another pup. Breed me.”

Her fingers traced my hardness, and I grabbed her wrist, spinning around to see my mate’s heated eyes. They were lucid for now, but it wouldn't be long until the fog took us both over.

“Aye! Another one,” I said, focused on the job at hand.

She smiled like a wicked, cruel temptress. “Come on. Let’s see Fenreika off with smiles and hugs. You know she adores your parents.”

I exhaled a long breath, but followed her lead.

The house was silent. Empty since ma angel left. I padded into her room, picking up her pillow, inhaling deeply into it. My pup’s unique scent was sweet and mischievous. The echoes of her laughter and voice rang in my head. The phantom feel of her tiny hugs clung to me. Wrecked me.

The bond thrummed.

My head snapped up.

The nest was ready.
