Rose nodded in understanding. “But this business manager thing is working out okay?”
Dahlia couldn’t stop a grin that spread from ear to ear. “I love it. And I think Nash is just as happy about it as I am, so I don’t feel like I’m stepping on his toes or anything.”
Rose laughed. “I talked to Emma about it. He’s over the moon to let you handle the books.”
Dahlia shrugged. “I’m good with numbers and Nash hates them, so it’s a perfect fit.”
Not to mention she got to spend her days near JJ and their weekends at the cabin. But the best part about the job was that she got to use her skills and was appreciated for her hard work.
Plus, as a part owner, she actually benefited directly. She’d already made an appointment to meet with a business manager and see where they could take the ranch in the future. She had a feeling they could be doing way more than just keeping things ticking over. The possibilities were there, just waiting to be uncovered.
Rose took her hand and gave it a squeeze. “So, I take it you’ve changed your mind about the whole selling the ranch thing?”
She nodded. “Yeah, I think so. But…” She pointed a forkful of cake at Rose. “I will understand if the others don’t feel the same way. But until then, we might as well make the most of things.”
Rose smiled. “I know. We’ll just have to take it one step at a time.”
“Or one sister at a time,” Dahlia corrected with a laugh.
“Exactly.”
A police siren outside the coffee shop had them looking out the window. The coffee crew grew silent as everyone in the shop watched Levi get out of his cruiser and approach the Volkswagen Beetle.
A scratched-up, pale blue Beetle.
Dahlia’s lips parted, and a glance at Rose saw that she recognized it too.
“Is that…Daisy?”
Rose giggled. “Being pulled over for speeding, no doubt.”
Levi wore a frown and hitched his belt as the window rolled down to reveal a gorgeous blonde with long, wild locks and an unapologetic smile.
“What is she doing here?” Dahlia stood and walked toward the window.
“Sweet-talking her way out of a ticket, by the looks of things.” Rose laughed, one hand on her belly as she got to her feet as well.
“You know that girl?” Chicken Joe called over to them.
Rose answered. “That’s our sister, Daisy.”
“Oh brother,” Norman muttered. “Another O’Sullivan? Lord help us.”
Rose giggled and kissed Norman’s cheek while Dahlia walked outside to find out why her sister, who was supposed to be doing some recording deal in LA, was actually sitting in the little town of Aspire.
Epilogue
Dahlia stared up at their lodgings with an open mouth.
She could feel JJ beside her, shifting from one foot to the other and watching her with the eager excitement of a young child.
Or a nervous mountain man.
“Well? What do you think? Is it too weird or—”
Before he could finish, she leapt into his arms and kissed him. “I love it.”
“Yeah?”
