“Nice to meet you too. I’ve heard so much about you but evidently not everything.” Lucy shot her twin a look and they shared some kind of communication that neither Abel nor me were privy to.
“Come on in, Chase,” Abel showed me to the living room where we all sat. Lucy sat next to me and I stretched my arm out behind her on the couch. She settled beside me so perfectly. It was hard not to kiss her or let my fingers dance along her naked back.
“Let me say thank you before I say anything else, Chase. I appreciate you knocking that asshole out for Luce.”
“Not a problem. I’d do it over and over again.” I tried not to stare at Lucy too hard.
“Did she tell you about Nora’s ex-fiance?” Abel asked with a scowl.
“Yeah, she told me. I’m glad you handled it.”
“Absolutely. I don’t fuck around when it comes to Luce.” His eyes were set on mine as he issued a silent warning. Lucy cleared her throat and smiled, big and bright.
“Abel, where’s your pet bird?”
“Lucy, stop that shit.”
“What? I figured if we were having dates over that…”
“Dates?” Nora and Abel both said at the same time. Only, Nora wore a smile and Abel wore a frown.
“I mean…you know what I mean,” Lucy stammered. “Fuck, I need a drink. Am I allowed to drink yet, Chase?” She looked at me and I sighed. It had been six days since she took her last drink and I was going to make her stick it out the full seven. She needed it. She had a beautiful clarity about her when she wasn’t drunk all the time.
“No,” I grunted.
“Fine.” She gave me a pout and a million thought flourished in my mind about what I wanted to do to those ruby stained lips.
“Luce. Kitchen,” Abel stood, his spine stiff. Lucy followed him and I could tell she was brimming with words to say. I was letting her control when her family knew about us. As long as she was mine, I didn’t care.
