“I think there’s a damn good reason that there isn’t any surveillance on the inside. I’ve seen a picture of the pretty lady you’re guarding with your life.” He lowered his voice. “You had a chance to use thatgiftI sent with you?”
Isaac knew he was talking about the box of condoms. “You know as well as I do, you don’t fuck the job.” But he had. Several times. And hoped to again this morning.
“You could’ve gotten a little action before the job actually started.” Karl was on a fishing expedition, but Isaac wasn’t biting.
“Anything else I need to know about?” He wanted to get off the subject of Hannah. The thought of her warm and soft, and in his bed, made him hard. “Any news from USSOCOM or Homeland?”
“Our former employer is working on something, but it’s top-secret and neither of us has the clearance for that shit anymore.” Karl went on to add, “And I, for one, am glad. I’ve eaten all the sand I’m ever going to, unless I can find some gorgeous woman that needs protecting on a Caribbean beach.”
“Roger that.” Isaac thought about the plain white bra and panties he had stripped Hannah of last night. It looked like a very conservative bikini. But he didn’t have any problems picturing her in three small triangles held together by strings.
His cock was so hard it was pulsing. He looked down the hallway longingly. “Do you have any good news for me?”
“Actually, I do.” Then Karl added, “It’s really a good news, bad news deal.”
“Hit me with the good news first.” Isaac poured himself another cup of coffee.
“Homeland has two of the tangos who attacked you in Big Sky in federal custody.”
“What about the other two?”
“Sorry, Snowman. Looks like they got away.”
Damn. That meant there were at least two men who knew they were in Montana and were close enough to do something about it. Isaac was afraid of that. At least four of the six were out of the game.
“Hang on, Isaac. I have an incoming call from Alex.”
When Karl returned to the line, he used his formal voice. “Snowman, hold for Wolf.”
The next voice Isaac heard was that of his ultimate boss. “Snowman, are you friendly enough to ask Blink a few questions?”
“Most likely. What do you need to know?” Isaac wasn’t sure if Hannah would open up to him.
“We’re getting conflicting stories about why ISIS wants her and if they really want her dead, or just want her back.” Alex was being vague, and it was driving Isaac’s imagination to places he really shouldn’t go.
“They want her back so they can torture her?” There was no way in hell Isaac was going to allow that.
There was a long pause before Alex answered. “We have one source telling us that she was the wife of the Caliphate’s brother who will take over ISIS if anything happens to al-Baghdadi.”
“Holy fuck.” The words slipped out of his mouth just above a whisper, but everyone had likely heard them.
“You got that right,” Alex confirmed. “If true, that changes everything. You will need to take her into immediate custody so we can turn her over to Homeland Security.”
“She could be a fucking spy.” The hatred in Karl’s voice came through loud and clear.
Isaac quickly thought through everything he and Hannah had spoken about. Had he given away any state secrets?
Of course not.
How could that wonderful woman, the one who had made love to him so tenderly, be an enemy? Isaac shook his head. He couldn’t believe what they were saying. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time intel was inaccurate.
Married? To someone that high in the fundamentalist regime? No. No way. She was not a woman to hide under an abaya and live as women had a thousand years ago. His Hannah was far too modern to put up with that lifestyle.
When he tuned back in, Alex was talking. “Just see what you can find out and get back to me as soon as possible.”
“Yes, sir.” Isaac needed answers, too.
