As I pull Lilah into my arms, I murmur, “That felt pretty good, right?”

She giggles, a warm and happy sound, nuzzling into my hold. With a sigh, she says, “Yeah. That was incredible, Scorpion.”

“Good,” I say as I plant a kiss to the crown of her head. I run my hands through her hair, gently working out the tangles that we created. “You’re absolutely beautiful, Lilah. The most beautiful girl in the world.”

“Oh, my god,” she says, her giggles turning into full-blown laughter. It warms me from the inside out, and I’m adding that to the list of things I’m going to do for this girl. I’m going to keep her safe, give her mind-blowing orgasms, and make her laugh. “You’re just saying that.”

“That’s something you’re going to have to learn about me,” I chuckle, continuing to play with her hair. “I don’t say things I don’t mean. And even if I did, I wouldn’t lie about something like that.”

“You’re so cheesy,” she says, a smile in her voice as her giggles subside. “But that’s okay. I like it. I like you.”

“You’re in luck,” I murmur, tightening my arms around her. “Because I like you, too.”

She smiles against my skin, but doesn’t say anything else. Honestly, I don’t think there’s anything else to it. Sure, I could go on and on about how making her mine forever is now my life’sone true purpose, but considering what she’s going through at work, I decide to hold my tongue.

“You know,” I say, breaking the comfortable silence that we’ve fallen into, “I did offer you dinner.”

“You did,” she agrees, removing her face from the crook of my neck to stare at me with the softest, most affectionate look I’ve ever seen on another person.

“How about I get in the kitchen and make us something? It might not be pretty, but I can promise you that it’ll taste great,” I say, grinning at her.

“That sounds incredible,” she says, a megawatt smile fixing itself to her face. “I’m starving.”

“We can’t have that,” I murmur, nudging her slightly to get her up. “Let’s get some food in you.”

She laughs again, leaning over the bed to fish her clothes from the floor. I decide that she shouldn’t have to hang out in work clothes, so I hustle to get her a t-shirt and sweats from my dresser. As I hand them to her, I say, “I’d really like it if you spent the night with me.”

“I’d like that, too,” she says as she accepts my clothing. “I’d like that a lot.”

Chapter 6

Lilah

The next morning is incredible. I never thought I’d be waking up in someone’s arms. It’s not that I thought love wasn’t on the table for me, it’s more that I’m well aware of how difficult the dating scene is right now. So, I just never thought about it.

But this… this is bliss.

It feels almost impossible to peel myself out of bed, but Scorpion makes it worth it, offering me coffee and breakfast. It’s a hard deal to turn down. He’s an excellent cook.

Then, after he feeds me, I let him escort me back to my house. I’d like to be on the back of his bike, but I can’t bring myself to leave my car at his place.I trust him with it, of course, I just like having all of my things in place. If I’m not driving my car, it should be in my driveway.

Once we get there, Scorpion gets off of his bike at the same time that I get out of my car. He leaves his helmet on the seat and comes over to me, resting his hand on the small of my back. When he starts to urge me forward, I have to dig my heels in.

“I’m running a little late. I wouldn’t want us getting… distracted,” I say, my face burning at the admission.

I know that if I bring Scorpion inside, we’re going to have sex again. I’m too weak to say no, and I can tell by the fire in his eyes that he’s insatiable. And, while I desperately want to indulge him, I also want to keep my job.

“As long as there’s plenty of time for those… distractions later,” Scorpion says, leaning down to press a kiss to my lips.

“There will be,” I giggle, before turning on my heel and heading to my front door.

Before I even reach the landing, I notice a package sitting on the concrete stoop. I slow down as I mentally account for my online shopping. There shouldn’t be anything arriving for another week at least. Though, early deliveries aren’t unheard of.

When I bend down to pick up the box, I realize that the address is handwritten, and there’s no return address. Also, I recognize this handwriting – Dan. It’s not the first time that he’s sent an unwanted gift to my home. I’m not even sure how he got my address.

A shiver runs down my spine when I realize there isn’t any postage on this. It was hand-delivered. Dan came to my house last night while I was at Scorpion’s. I feel a little sick to my stomach imagining what might have happened if I had declined his offer to stay the night.

Pushing that thought out of my head, I unlock my front door and let myself in. A quick look around confirms that nothing’s out of place inside. Maybe all Dan did was drop this off. While that’sdefinitelycreepy, it could have been so much worse.
