"What? Um, sorry. Could you repeat that again?"
"We have a few hours off and we're doing some writing sprints. Do you want to join us?"
"Oh. I don't know. I'm feeling a little scattered today. When is the next presentation?"
"3pm. Will we see you there?"
"Yeah, sure. I'm looking forward to that talk on writing to market."
"If you change your mind, we'll be at that tiki bar on the beach." Jennie says.
"Right."
My face feels hot and I bet you anything I'm red like a tomato. Am I brave enough to go and talk to the hottie? He stirs some feelings inside me that I haven't felt in quite some time, and I want more of that. I notice that there's a ton of leaflets with information of activities you can do around here, so I walk over to it and start browsing.
I pick a couple of leaflets, not even noticing what they are about. I ooh and aah as if I'm interested in what I'm reading. A presence looms behind me and I get tingly.
"You want to swim with sharks? That's adventurous."
"Um, what?"
"You're holding a brochure on swimming with the sharks. Not many people go for that."
He towers over me and suddenly, I am speechless. I'm a writer, I should have quick comebacks, but I don't, not in the presence of such a good looking man. I put the leaflets back and face him full on.
"What do you suggest? I'm a romance writer. I'd say my adventure meter is at a six out of ten."
"I knew such a beautiful woman must have an intriguing job. What kind of romance do you write?"
"My full time job is as a model, but I write romantic comedies. Ever read one?"
"My life is a little complicated, so I don't have much time to read."
"I didn't know running the recreation desk was so challenging."
I can't seem to take my eyes off him. It's like he's a magnet and I can't move away from him even if I tried.
"You have no idea. What do you say I become your personal tour guide during your stay with us?"
"What? I don't know. Not all of my time here is free. I'm here at a writer's conference."
"Doesn't matter. I'll be at your disposal whenever you are free."
"Why would you do that?"
I really want to know the answer to that. I know it will cost me a pretty penny, but he's singling me out and I want to believe he has ulterior motives like I do with him.
"You are a smart, beautiful woman, who has come here to have fun. You deserve to have a good time and I think I'm just the man to help you do that. Let's start by taking a walk at the beach."
He reaches his hand out to me and I take it as if I have no will of my own. When we touch a zap of electricity goes through me and I look up at him surprised. He's surprised too, but hides it almost immediately.
"I'm sorry, I didn't even ask your name. I'm Dominic."
"Hi Dominic, I'm Lulu."
"That's a fun name, is it short for Louise?"
"Yes, how did you know?"
