While I knew that she didn’t venture to this part of town often, if at all, I didn’t think that she was consuming animal blood exclusively. I felt like a shithead—it was like bringing a vegan to a BBQ joint and acting shocked when they didn’t touch any of the food!
“I’m so sorry, Lo. I didn’t know.” I slid my hand slowly to the base of her glass. “You don’t need to drink that.” When I tried to pull the glass away, her fingers wound around the stem of it firmly.
“No,” she exhaled softly and brought the glass to her lips. “I just did not expect it, that’s all. I’m alright.”
I allowed her a moment to tip the glass back far enough for the crimson liquid to pour into her mouth. My cock reacted at the sight of pure ecstasy washing over her face. She tipped it further back and enjoyed another sip before she parted her lips to reveal her teeth, coated in blood. Whatever Lotus was giving tonight, I wanted to worship at her feet if it meant I could see more of that pleasure on her face.
“What do you think?” I murmured, afraid to disturb the euphoric expression on her face. When her lips thinned into a pleased smile, I pressed for more confirmation that I didn’t mess things up completely. “Was that good?”
“I don’t know how I’ve held back for so long,” Lotus giggled lightly, the sound so joyful that my own lips couldn’t hold back in widening into grin. “It’s like a light inside me that has been off for so long is finally lit up. Wow—what a new world this is.”
“Yeah, it really is,” I trailed off, still so lost in the freed expression on the woman sitting across from me.
Our first course arrived on a small plate that had a ceramic spoon set atop a bed of micro greens that none of us were going to touch. Our eyes were fixed on the violet bubble surrounded by crimson foam. I waited to see Lotus’s reaction and cackled as she studied her plate.
She leaned in to be almost eye-level with the plates before looking up at me. “This is,” she started, then hesitated before speaking again. “This is still blood?”
“Apparently!” I tried to stifle another laugh. I mean, it was pretty ridiculous. At least both of us understood that blood was great in a glass and that was just about as innovative as one had to get beside consuming it straight from the tap… well, human tap, that is.
While we sampled each plate that was set before us, we mainly enjoyed the glasses of blood that were there to accompany each plate. Lotus’ pleasure blossomed with each sip that she took. I took note of which glass made her eyes light up more. This was pure indulgence at this point, but seeing her light up was better than anything I could have imagined.
Once our dining experience reached its finale, I took her hand and led her out of the restaurant where the crisp air greeted us. This was the end of the scene. Only Lotus could decide whether it would be the end of the Act.
“Silas,” she finally spoke after we stood outside for a few minutes.
“Hmm?”
“Can you walk me home?”
For weeks, I pictured what a night out with Lotus would be like. We spent many evenings talking at the bar, but never in a setting that was truly out of her comfort. I could see her loosening up and giving into the pleasure of the moment. For a while there, it was as if I caught a glimpse of the Lotus that she never shared with anyone else. She was in her own world, and I was lucky enough to have a peek.
When she asked me to walk her home, I had to reel in my excitement. It didn’t mean anything yet. Maybe she just wanted to be escorted back to her apartment because she didn’t want to walk alone. Totally valid. But what if she wanted something more?
My mouth opened to ask questions when I looked over at her, but the serenity in the silence between us felt more comforting. I held my tongue and walked beside her, letting my hand relax at my side. When our hands brushed gently against each other, I wondered if she, too, felt that spark between us. Just as I worked up the courage to take her hand, Lotus stopped before the dreaded gate to her apartment.
She looked around idly, and the only thought in my head was how much I wanted her. I needed to kiss every inch of her until she’d melt into me. I craved a closeness from her that I wasn’t sure even sex could satisfy.
I just didn’t know what thoughts were churning in her head. Could she tell how much life she breathed back into me?
“Dinner was lovely. Truly. And so was the walk…” Lotus spoke first and reached to take my hand in hers. I was putty in her grasp, melting at the mere sensation of her soft skin against mine. “I’m really glad you asked me to come out tonight.”
“I’m glad you had a—”
“Silas, I would really like it if you came upstairs with me.”
Fuck.I loved when she told me what she wanted. I wondered how much more I could get out of those plump lips before I left her swollen with need and unable to utter coherent sentences. Hmm, a challenge.
“Oh?” I asked, my grin growing more wicked by the second.
“Please,” her lips parted slowly, earning me a glimpse of her cheeky fangs that couldn’t help revealing themselves. With them peeking out from under her lip, I turned to prowl forward until her back was against the gate door.
“And what would you like for us to do upstairs?”
Her breath hitched, hitting my collarbone. I had to squeeze my eyes shut, to retain my control over the situation. It was up to Lotus to decide how far she wanted this to go. This would only happen if she really wanted it to. The urge to forfeit the verbal foreplay was strong, especially once I felt Lotus take my hand again. She dragged it up the side of her body until she settled it just under her breasts. With the cutout on her dress, I was able to sneak a feel of her naked flesh. No makeup, no fabric—perfection.
“What we didn’t get to finish at the bookstore,” she uttered and turned to open the gate while still holding my hand securely in hers. I followed her into the building and up the stairs while I chained my thoughts together. Lotus was bringing me inside to finish what we started in the bookstore. As we made it up the two flights of stairs, Irealized I would now be able to see where Lotus Evans disappeared to whenever we parted ways.
The apartment was small, but the space was definitely hers. Dark emerald walls made the living space feel warm and lived in. Thick gold ornamental frames covered one wall. Most of them were filled with art, but none of them had any pictures of Lotus or her friends. I could imagine Lotus spending hours picking out each print that she hung up. It was a peek into what she admired, what brought her joy. While I wanted to get lost in my fantasies, the real thing was better. I watched the woman I adored walk past me to the kitchen that was visible from where I was standing. She stopped and leaned against the granite island.
