"Okay. Thank you," I whisper, unable to get any other words out, getting up from the chair.
As I walk out the door, my eyes sting with tears trying to push forward, but I try my hardest to blink them away. I just hope I can make it out of the building before anyone sees me. I'm not sure I'll be able to continue to keep the tears at bay if I'm stopped.
I'm able to make it to my locker without being seen. I grab the rest of my stuff out and head out of the locker room. I freeze the minute I walk out when I see Rocky standing against the wall, as if he's waiting for me. Quickly, I walk in his direction without making eye contact, hoping to make it past him. I’m done with confrontations for today. Apparently, I'm not so lucky.
"Diana. Hey!" he says, pushing off the wall.
"I don't want to talk right now," I mutter, willing my legs to move even faster as I pass by him.
I really didn't want to talk to anyone about this. I just want to get out of here and break down in my own house. Our team was vying for the last spot in the playoffs. This is the worst time for me to take a break, not just to make sure that the powers that be don't trade me but also to keep myself in the forefront of everyone's mind. Being a professional sports player isn't just playing the game you train for, but playing the game of politics too. If the audience is looking for me, it's harder to get rid of me. And no one enjoys it.
I hear Rocky let out a breath as if he's annoyed with me. Honestly, he probably is because he's just been trying to help me and I'm losing myself here.
"Here, take this," he says, pushing a business card into my hand. "My cousin works at this resort and it's the perfect place for you to escape to relax."
"Thank you," I tell him as I pluck the card from him and head to my car, ready to be done with this day.
Chapter 3
Luca
"I'm ready to do something more," I groan to my friend and co-worker, Gael, placing the first aid kit back on the shelf.
He's the reason I even have this job, and it's not that I'm ungrateful it's just I've been yearning for something more.
"You just started working here last year. Give it some time. There will be other promotions," he says focusing on the computer in front of him.
It's Gael's job to write up and report what happens during each shift. It's a lot of paperwork and dealing with people asking questions. I have to say he's great at his job. It's definitely not something that I want to do, though.
"Hmph," I grunt at him because he has a point. I can't expect to be in charge of everything so quickly, and there will be otherchallenges. Being a lifeguard at a resort combines what I know about being an EMT along with my love of being outside.
Speaking of, I check my watch and see my shift is over and it's time for me to head home. I’m coming back later to meet with a few of the other resort employees to have some fun. We all try to get together about once a month to catch up and bond.
"Hey, man. I'll see you in a few hours. You'll be at the happy hour later?" I ask.
Gael doesn't say anything but nods his head, continuing to do whatever admin work he has to do.
I leave him to it, making my way down the hall into the locker room. Opening my locker, I grab my sun shirt and pull it over my naked chest. As a lifeguard, I'm used to walking around without a T-shirt to keep myself cool as well as to be ready to dive into the water at a moment's notice, but some places call for a better type of shirt. Feeling a little more covered and ready to run an errand before I end up at home for a nap, I grab my backpack, ready to leave.
Stepping out of the building, I close my eyes and take a deep breath. The saltwater in the air fills my lungs, the sun heating my skin and refilling my battery. Making my way to the employee parking lot, I walk around the large complex, cutting through a shortcut until I'm at the front of the resort.
That's when I see her.
The moment I round the corner, my lungs seize in my chest as her light brown hair gets caught in the wind, creating a slow-motion effect around the goddess in front of me. Or maybe that's just me because everything around me seems to fade away. A tall, fit woman stands in front of a black town car dressed in a light gauzy floral dress that sways in the wind as she stares up the front of the building like she's trying to figure something out.
Who is this woman? Is she a guest? Is she from here? No, she has to be a guest. I've never seen her before, and if she wasfrom here, I would've recognized her. I don't dare move or even breathe because how can I when a literal angel is standing in front of me. I've never seen anyone so beautiful but commanding at the same time. Everyone around her seems to feel the energy she gives off too. I watch as everyone falls over her, hoping to help her and I'm no different.
Even though she's so fucking out of my league, I know that if she looked at me and commanded me to drop to my knees and pleasure her with all my might, there is nothing that would be able to stop me. I would do it and show everyone that I bow at the knees of my queen.
Right at that moment, our gazes clash. If I had any more air in my lungs, it's all gone now. I'm so fucked. But only I’m trapped in this hypnotic state that we seem to be in because just as quickly as her gaze met mine, she rips it away and is gone just as quickly.
My lungs fill with air once again now that she's not in my sight any longer. How the hell am I going to go on with my normal life after being in her presence? If I had been reluctant to come to the happy hour with the other employees before, all of that is gone now. I'll definitely be returning, but I'll be looking for the goddess who will no doubt be haunting my dreams.
Don't worry, my goddess. I'll be back for you and make you mine.
