CHAPTER FOUR

Wade just couldn’tcatch a break. He really thought he’d found something good.Something real. But no.It was just another freaking dating disaster to add to his massive collection.

Ironically, he was the one, out of all his brothers, who had spent his life searching for someone to spend forever with.Ever since he could remember, he’d dreamed of being a husband, a father, and one day a grandfather.Yet, he was the brother who was eternally single. The brother whose dates apparently couldn’t even stand him long enough to get through a meal.

I should just give up and get some cats.

“Matt said something about you dating the new maid.Is that the chick you brought to the wedding?”

So much for peaceful silence.

Snapped out of his self-pity stupor, Wade twisted his neck to face Zach.

Zach had only just joined him on their parents’ porch.Matt and Jonah were late.He had no idea why they still met there, the business belonged to them now and not their father, but the main house was where they all still congregated.

“Matt needs to mind his own business.”

“I take that as a yes, then.”Zach chuckled.

“Remind me again why you’re not on your honeymoon?”Wade’s eyes narrowed on his brother.

“Oh, it’s like that is it?”Zach pasted on an annoying smirk.“You must really like this one if you’re already dodging questions.”

That was enough to make him sigh.He did, no,doesreally like her.But there was no coming back from last night. And it wasn’t just the godawful date that was the final nail in the coffin, no, it was the fact that she couldn’t even look at him for the whole drive home. That shit stung.

“It’s not like anything, because it isn’tanything,” Wade clarified.“I’m not dating the new maid.End of story.”

“Don’t tell me you’ve blown it already?”Matt’s big hand came down and slapped him on the back.Great.Goddamn perfect.“That was quick.Even for you!”

“So there is a story!”Zach laughed.“I fucking knew it!”

“You’re late.”Wade was back to dodging.“Where’s Jonah?”

“Last I saw him he was challenging Old Bessie to a staring contest over on the south pasture.”Matt laughed as he dragged a chair over and slumped down into it.“Seriously though, your date didn’t go well?”

His brothers really needed to learn to read the room.Nosy-ass bastards.Wade’s signature cream Stetson came off and was placed on his mother’s wicker table. He ran a hand through his hair in frustration.

“I don’t think it went well, dude,” Zach answered for him.

Very observant.

Wade could only sigh.“Are we having this meeting or not?”

“You’re changing the subject,” Matt surmised.

“He did that to me, too,” Zach added.

“The date that bad, huh?”Matt asked again, ignoring Wade’s very obviousshut the fuck upface.

“Whose date was bad?”Jonah bellowed as the porch door swung open.“Shit.The maid?”

“Told you we need that contract.”Matt sniggered.

Wade’s head shot back as he slumped in his seat.He let his brothers get it out of their system.Although there were a few head shakes as they unashamedly joked about the sorry state of his love life.
