“Just wanted to make sure you were with the land of the living.”

“Oh, yeah, most definitely.”

“Good, then you might want to hold on for the ride.” Patch continued to look into her eyes as he slowly entered her. He didn’t stop until he couldn’t go any further. The entire time he entered her, the further in he got, the wider Silver’s eyes became. “Relax,” Patch said between gritted teeth. “You’re squeezing me too hard.”

“Oh,” Silver said, and tried to do as he said. She closed her eyes, and was able to relax her inner muscles. Once he slipped in further, she opened them and saw the strain on his face. She reached up and placed a hand on his jaw, and melted when he opened his eyes, smiled down at her, then moved his head to kiss the center of her palm. That move was the most intimate move Silver had ever experienced. With tears in the corner of her eyes, she would later realize that was the moment she fell in love with him.

“Do. Not. Move,” Patch said between clenched teeth once he stopped moving, and Silver studied his face intently. She wrapped her arms around his neck, then lifted her legs to put around his hips. “Shit,” Patch said as he moved. At first his strokes were slow and gentle, but the more he moved, the faster they became. In no time, he was pounding into her, and she matched him stroke for stroke.

“Oh god, I don’t know if I can hold off any longer.”

“Then, don’t,” Silver whispered in his ear, then took his lobe in her mouth, gently bit down on it, and sucked the pain away. That must have been a trigger for him, because in seconds he reared up on his fisted hands, then reached back, took one of her legs in his hand, lifted it as high as it would go toward her head, and proceeded to pound into her. Two seconds later, Silver screamed her release into his shoulders, and Patch fell forward and yelled his into the crook of her neck. They both were breathing hard, and as they got their breath back and relaxed into one another, Patch rolled off her, removed his condom, and threw it into the waste basket beside the bed. He gathered Silver toward him, reached down, pulled up the blankets, wrapped his arms around her, and whispered against her head. “I’ll leave in a few minutes. I just need to get feeling back into my body.” He smiled against her hair as he said this.

“No, you can stay,” Silver whispered, then snuggled against him. It took less than five minutes before they both fell into a contented sleep.

Patch jerked awake, and lay there for several moments in complete silence, trying to get his bearings. He frowned as he moved the blankets away from his body, and realized he was naked. It took him only five more seconds to break out in a grin as he remembered the night before. Tossing the covers to the side, he swung his feet over the side of the bed, and walked naked into the shower. As soon as he entered, he drew in a deep breath of the moist air, and shook his head when his erection began. He loved the smell of Silver’s soap and shampoo.

After using the facilities, he hopped into the shower and was back out five minutes later. Back in the bedroom, he looked around, and shook his head with a smile when he found his clothes from the night before all folded on top of the dresser. He took the note from the top of them, and frowned, then looked around frantically. The note had said that the clothes had been washed and dried. Patch finally spotted the clock on the other side of the bed from where he’d slept and stared at it with bug-eyes. He had never—not once in his life ever—slept past ten in the morning, so he quickly donning his underwear and slacks. He pulled the dress shirt over his shoulders, but didn’t bother buttoning it, and with his socks in his hands, he made his way out of the bedroom, and toward the kitchen. On the way down the hall, he paused at an open doorway, and leaned against the doorjamb. Sitting at a desk with two monitors on it was Silver, deep in concentration. He didn’t know whether he should say anything or not, but she looked up and smiled at him.

“Good morning, sleepyhead. How do you feel?” Silver asked as she rose from her desk, came around to him, then raised on her tiptoes to kiss the side of his mouth. Patch turned his head in order to give her a full-on kiss. Once they broke apart, he put his forehead on hers, and sighed in contentment.

“I’m good. Why did you let me sleep so long? I’ve never in my entire life slept this late before.”

“I figured as much. You were dead to the world when I woke at six, and I didn’t have the heart to wake you. I thought with all your crazy hours at work, and you only catching a catnap here or there, I’d let you sleep. I woke at six, took my shower, and because I do my laundry on Saturdays it wasn’t a hardship to add your things to mine. I hope you don’t mind?”

“Not at all. Thank you.” Patch wrapped his arms round her lower back, and pulled her in for another kiss. He lifted his head and gave her a sheepish grin. “Do you have any coffee?”

Chuckling, Silver nodded her head, and stepped out of his arms, but reached down and took one of his hands in hers. “I do.” She pulled him after her into the kitchen, and poured him a cup of coffee, and placed two muffins on a plate.

“What’s this?”

“Two blueberry muffins. I need to go grocery shopping, but I had enough stuff in the cupboards to mix up a batch of these.”

“You made these from scratch?” Patch stared at her in awe. He peeled the paper off one, broke the top off, then bit into the bottom half of the muffin, moaning when it melted in his mouth. After taking a sip of coffee, he stared at her in shock. “These are delicious, and did you know this is my favorite kind of muffin?”

“No, and it’s mine too. I always make sure I have blueberries in the freezer. Sometimes I add them to my pancakes, or the muffins, or yogurt.”

Patch stood, walked over to her, took her face in both his hands, and kissed her deeply. When they came up for air, he put his forehead on hers, and whispered, “I love option B.” He watched her face go from confusion to a brilliant smile, but before she could say anything, he quickly kissed her again. When he was done, he settled back down at the island and resumed his breakfast/brunch.

“What do you have planned for today?” he asked her.

“I was checking my e-mails and I’ve run into a snag with work. I’m going to try to figure that out. I have a conference call with Lorna, and our printer in an hour. What about you? Do you have any plans?”

“While I was in the shower, I thought about our conversation last night. I’d like to contact Aderly and talk to him.”

“Who and about what?” Silver stared at him in confusion.

“Dr. Kevin Aderly, he’s the doctor in charge of the lab at work. I’d like to talk to him about this DNA stuff.”

“Ah,” Silver said as she nodded her head. “Get it from the horse’s mouth, so to speak?”

“Yes, you’ve opened my eyes to a lot of things, and I’d like to pursue them. Who knows, maybe I do have a long-lost family out there somewhere that is still looking for me, or gave up hope of ever finding me.”

“That’s true, and you won’t know until you make the first step. Who knows?” Silver shrugged. “Maybe someone already put their DNA in that website, and is just waiting for a match. Can I make a suggestion?”

“What’s that?” Patch asked, after he finished eating, and washed the last of the muffin down with his coffee.
