The way he’s looking at my wife makes my stomach churn. It’s disgusting. And her defenses are raised so high against him—I want to know what is going on.

Clueless, unable to do anything against Miron, I decide that the best thing I can do is to get her out of here. As far away from him as possible.

I can’t stay here and risk her life. No matter what opportunity this presents to take down Miron, my main concern is getting Ulyana home.

“My love, we have other guests to talk to,” I say, pulling her away, watching Miron’s face burn with anger.

“I wasn’t done talking to her.”

“She’s done talking to you,” I say coldly.

Ulyana lets me pull her away, holding her in front of my body as I turn my back on him, shielding her from him.

I push her forward, making eye contact with Jadon across the room. He’s been watching the whole thing from the edge ofthe crowd. He knows me well enough to read my mind and he nods. Lifting his hand, he presses it against the side of his head to speak into his earpiece.

He tilts his head and gestures for me to use the side exit.

“I don’t want to be here,” Ulyana says quietly as I lean over her, guiding her towards the edge of the room.

“We’re leaving now, little fox. Just stay alert, I don’t know what Miron has planned. Inside the event, we are technically covered by the treaty, but once we’re out on the road, it’s open ground again.”

She nods tightly, glancing behind us. “I can’t see him.”

“It’s okay, Jadon will have men watching him. They’re bringing the car around the side for us now. We’ll walk straight out of the door into the car.”

I’m on high alert. I’ve never been in a situation like this before. It’s easy to keep myself safe, to feel confident that my men will be watching my back—but I have Ulyana now, and the thought of anything happening to her drives me crazy.

I can’t lose her.

If he hurts her, I don’t know what I’ll do.

And I desperately want to know what was going on between the two of them with the way they were speaking to each other. There is history there. Is it just the past I know about, her brother’s hatred for Miron, that she is a part of? It seems like something more.

We wait at the edge of the room with my back pressed against the wall and Ulyana standing against my chest, my arms wrapped tightly around her, protecting her, holding her close. I’m waiting for Jadon to let me know that the car is here, and the path is clear for us to make an exit.

As soon as he does, we’ll move. But for now, I can watch the crowd from here and keep my eyes peeled for that rat.

I want to be home with her, in the safety of the high security gates with my trusted men patrolling the property. I hate the tension that rises at the idea of driving now. Not knowing what might happen. But we can’t stay here all night.

It’s a risk we have to take.

“Sir,” Jadon says, stepping to my side. “Follow me.”

I nod and guide Ulyana to follow him, keeping her between myself and Jadon as we walk towards the exit.

My jaw is clenched so tightly it’s aching every muscle in my face, shooting tension down my neck into my shoulders.

We step out of the venue doors.

The car is right there, a few feet away, the engine running and the door open.

“Move,” Jadon says calmly.

I hurry to get Ulyana in the car and Jadon climbs in after us. He tugs the door closed.

“Drive.”

He lifts his hand and speaks into his earpiece again. “We’re on the move.”
