A deep chuckle rumbles through his chest as he lets go of me and shakes his head, “Ah yes, the little boy-toy.” Frowning, I fold my arms over my chest. Right, he reads minds. That much I’ve gathered. That fucking sucks, to say the least.
“Little? He is anything but little.” I try to protest but he cuts me off with another chuckle.
“Oh, please. Everything about him is ‘little’.” I feel my cheeks heat up as I realize what he means. Has he been watching us… having sex? Oh God. I can’t think that there is anything else he could be talking about. Austin is a six-foot, footballer. So there is only one thing he could be referring to.
With another chuckle, he steps forward causing my heart rate to skyrocket. “He can’t even satisfy you with that excuse of a dick.” Now, he is taking it too far. Austin was my first—first orgasm included, so I don’t know what the hell he is trying to do—maybe piss me off, which is working.
Before I can open my mouth to tell him exactly what I think of his little game, he beats me to it, “You really believe that he wasmaking you cum?” I gasp as he suddenly appears in front of me, both his arms next to me, trapping me in where I’m still seated on the desk.
His mouth skims over my ear, his warm breath tickling down my neck before he softly speaks, “You have no idea what an orgasm is, darling.Thisis what it should feel like,” I watch as dark shadowed hands run up my legs, setting every nerve in my body on fire.
My eyes shut tightly as I press my thighs together. My legs begin to shake and the most amazing warm feeling spreads through me causing a strained moan to escape my mouth as my eyes roll to the back of my head.
My hands grip the edge of the desk so tightly causing my knuckles to turn white before the warmth starts to coil up my spine. But the overwhelming feeling suddenly stops.
I snap my eyes open as a loud knock on the door echoes through the room. Vex is gone. Trying to calm my racing thoughts and the tingling sensation between my legs, I try to make sense of the whole encounter we just had.
I am supposed to be freaked out, right? But why aren’t I? Why does it feel like I have always known? Well, not that he is the Grim Reaper, obviously— but that he was different.
Maybe that’s why I was always drawn to him in a way. He was the only person who understood what it was like being different and not really having anyone besides the silly voices in your head.
The door swings open, revealing Austin. He frowns, before putting his hands in his pockets, “Hey, babe. Um, what are you doing on the desk?”
“I—um, I just…” Oh, nothing much. My friend—the Grim Reaper, placed me here, teased me, and then practically mind fucked me all while insulting your manhood.
Realizing that wouldn’t be the best response, I just kept my mouth shut and jumped off the desk.
“Nothing. Let’s go out to eat. I’ve missed you.” Giving him a quick peck on the lips, I grab his hand and drag him out of the apartment. He doesn’t protest, swinging his arm over my shoulder.
I take a glance back at the apartment and Vex stands there, giving me a little wave before disappearing in a cloud of black smoke.
CHAPTER ELEVEN
Lily
“So, what do you think we should be?” Hannah asked, her voice cutting through the chaos of Playtime Parlor like a sharp knife through butter. The costume shop was a madhouse, a vibrant, overwhelming cacophony of rustling fabrics, excited squeals, and frustrated sighs.
It was crammed with last-minute shoppers: parents scrambling for trick-or-treating outfits for their kids and older teens hunting for something scandalous for parties, their laughter echoing through the aisles.
The Halloween carnival was tonight, a sprawling, town-wide event promising games, food, and a terrifying haunted house. And we were still costume-less.
But if I was honest with myself, I wasn’t even sure I wanted to go. The last few days have been a nightmare, a relentless barrage of negativity capped off by a disturbing encounter with Vex.
I had some pretty fucked up dreams last night. All consisting of that faceless man that keeps sneaking into my dreams and trying to fuck me. I bet Vex has something to do with that too, no doubt.
“Earth to you! Are you even listening?” Hannah stopped mid-sentence, her brow furrowed as she studied my face. Her bright, bubbly energy seemed to falter slightly, replaced with a concern that tugged at my guilt. She knew me too well to miss the dark circles under my eyes or the vacant look behind my forced smiles.
“Yeah, sorry,” I mumbled, forcing a smile that probably looked more like a grimace. “Whatever you want, I’m in.” I brushed past her, my fingers trailing across the various fabrics hanging on the racks.
Sequined gowns, tattered pirate shirts, and animal costumes in varying states of disrepair mocked my lack of enthusiasm. This close to Halloween, I doubted there were many decent options left. But knowing Hannah, she could probably whip something together that looked like we’d been planning it all year.
Even as kids, she could transform household junk into elaborate costumes for our games. Cardboard boxes became spaceships, old sheets turned into royal robes, and even stray bits of tinfoil could become shimmering armor.
Creativity has always been her superpower. It was a shame I couldn’t muster up any excitement to appreciate it right now. Ijust wanted this night, and the unnerving dreams that plagued it, to be over.
A throat clearing has my hair rising on the back of my neck and I swear I’m about to fucking pass out. “Fancy seeing you here, Lily.”
Vex.
