Shaking my head, I give her a smile, “Go on, I’ll be fine.”
She leaves a peck on my cheek before turning to Vex, pointing a finger at him, “You better look after her.”
He lets out a small chuckle before saying, “Always.” His response has my heart pounding against my chest. I’m going to be alone with him, again. I know I told her to go, but now I’m not so sure if I want her to leave. I watch as she walks off towards the Ferris wheel where Jason is waiting for her before turning to Vex.
“So, what do you wanna do?”
A smirk pulls at his lips before he answers in a low voice, “I thought you’d never ask.”
Ignoring the way his words affect me, I turn and start strolling through the booths. All of them consisting of games where you can win giant teddies. I watch as couples hug and kiss as they win each other something special to remember the night.
It makes me wonder what Austin is up to. After our little silent treatment, he left and I haven’t seen him yet.
“I see you eyeing those teddy bears. Do you want me to win you one?” Vex suddenly asked beside me. I let out a laugh and turn to him, “What, are you serious?”
“I’ll take that as a yes.” He proudly says, making his way to the booth. What is happening right now? I hurry after him, grabbing his arm as he reaches the man working the game.
“Wait, you really don’t have to.” He turns and gives me the most beautiful smile, his sharp canines shining under the illuminating lights, “I want to.”
My entire body warms by the idea of him wanting to play a game just to win something for me. I can’t deny the affect it has and how my insides turned to liquid at the sight of him throwing baseballs at the targets, knocking them all off one by one.
Watching him, he looks nothing more than a normal man, playing a normal game. I can’t seem to tear my gaze away and it’s clear that he notices because his voice echoes inside my head that has every nerve in my body set ablaze.
Unless you’re willing to wrap your legs around my waist, I suggest you stop staring, darling.
Heat rushes to my cheeks but I refuse to tear my gaze away. After a few more throws, I’m quickly reminded that he is anythingbuta normal man as he turns towards me, his half skull face still on display.
But the thing that catches my eye, is the huge grim reaper teddy in his arms. Wow, I wonder why he chose that one. He chuckles as I roll my eyes, trying my best not to smile.
“Tada, now you have a mini Vex to keep you company.” He says before leaning closer, “For when you miss me.” His low and seductive voice sending a wave of tingles down my spine.
“Shut up.” I mutter, taking the teddy from his arms. “Thank you.” He gives me a wink and my cheeks instantly heat. As I turn to head to another booth, something catches my attention that has my stomach turning and all the blood vanishes from my body. I see Austin with his tongue down another girl’s throat.
My eyes start to water as I walk up to him. Leaving Vex with a confused look on his face. At first he doesn’t realize I saw them, but when they finally stop sucking each others faces, he looks up and his eyes widen. “Shit. Lil—“
“You fucking asshole!” I yell, tears threatening to fall. “We’re done!” The girl next to him looks confused and I bet she had no idea the dick wasn’t as single as he probably made her to believe.
I turn, shoving the teddy back in Vex’s arms before running towards the field that is situated next to the grounds.
Tears start streaming down my face and my chest feels like it’s on fire as I run further into the fields. I know Austin was an asshole, but for some reason, I never thought that he would do that to me.
I come to a stop, my chest heaving as I try to swallow more tears that threaten to fall. As I scan my surroundings, I realize I’ve run so far that the carnival is barely visible, just a glowing orb in the distance.
Suddenly, a crow flies over my head and materializes into a cloud of smoke that hits the ground with a shuddering thud before Vex steps out, concern edged on his face and I notice his entire face is back to human.
“Fuck, Lily. Are you okay?” He breathlessly says as he reaches out toward me, but I take a step back, wiping the tears from my cheeks. “Just go, please.”
“I’m not going anywhere.”
“Just go, please!” I shout in between sobs, but he doesn’t move.
“You can shout all you want, I’m not leaving you like this.” He softly says, and as if my body had a mind of his own, I move towards him and crash against his chest, sobbing as he wraps him arms around me. He doesn’t speak, doesn’t utter a word as he lets me cry into his chest, letting out all the sadness, anger and betrayal.
Suddenly, everything around me starts spinning, warping together with a mixture darkness and my stomach drops, feeling like I’m about to puke.
I shut my eyes and hold on to him tighter as the world around us turns into void before everything stops. I feel bile rising in my throat as I let him go and step back. I’m home. What the fuck?
I take a deep breath, forcing the bile down before looking up at him confused.
