And even though William seems so different from the rest of his clan, if I brought him to one of our family dinners, my brothers would disown me.

Chase, Shane, and Ryder have had their share of flat-out fights with William’s family. No. Dating a Johnson is strictly off the table. In fact, if my brothers quiz me on where Sheriff Gunner found me, I’ll leave out the details and just tell them William saved me, which is true.

William and I probably only have one more day together. I’ll have to keep everything that happens between us a secret.

My dirty little secret.

I shift, half turning to the window to distract myself before I do something nuts like reach over, run my hand up his thigh, unzip his jeans and...

I blow out a sigh and focus on the icy mud. I haven’t been with a man in so long and what do I do? Drive off a cliff, almost kill myself, and go home with a stranger who turns out to be from the worst family possible. Then, to make matters more complicated, I let Mr. Bad News Mountain Man go downtown on me. My insides are still throbbing from all the orgasms.

I sneak another peek at his profile. His nose is perfect. It’s straight, not too small, and the perfect size for his rugged, sexy face. And those lips—I can’t with those lips. I turn back to the window. What am I doing?

“It’s almost been a year since I was up here last,” I say casually, smoothing the front of his bulky sweatshirt. “I try to bring the kids up here every season, but somehow other things always seem to get in the way.”

“When was the last time you had someone to help you with your load, Jenny? Or treat you like the goddess you are?”

I almost snap my neck pivoting to him. Goddess? Is he joking? His jaw is clenched, eyes focused on the slick road ahead. I laugh. “That’s me, all right. Goddess of all things laundry, boo-boos, and homework.”

“There’s a lot more to you, Jenny. And it’s time someone treated you that way.” He winks at me and points down the road on the right. Berry’s Roadside Bar is lit up like Disneyland. “Have you ever stopped in?”

“No,” I sigh, running a hand through my mop. “I usually have my kids with me, and if not, I’m alone. I’d never go in there by myself. It looks pretty rough.”

“A woman like you would get eaten alive in there.” He shoots me a mischievous grin. Emphasis on the wordeaten.

Why did he have to bring up that word? I’m already soaking. Sweet baby Jesus. I don’t have a chance.

“How long has it been since you’ve been on a date?”

“Let’s just say it’s been a while,” I mutter, inspecting the packed parking lot as he slows and turns in.

“Me too. There are so many places I want to take you, so many things I want to show you. I have the prettiest little swimming hole on my property. We’ll have to wait for summer for that.” He grins, making his dimples flash.

Does he really think there is any way a Johnson and a West can have a future together?

“It’s a secret spot,” he goes on, smiling. “You’d be the first woman to see it. Of course, if you prefer chlorinated water, there’s always my pool. Do your kids know how to swim?” He frowns, scratching his neck. It looks like his brain is running a mile a minute. “I can find someone to give them lessons. In fact, I might have to fence that pool off until they’re older.”

I give him a double take. He’s thinking of my kids. Really? I melt. After everything he’s gone through, how is it possible for him to be so thoughtful?

“You’re full of ideas,” I say with a big fat ear-to-ear grin, getting caught up in the fantasy that maybe, somehow, some way, we could be something more.

He chuckles and squeezes my knee. “I’m only getting started, darlin’.” He points out the foggy window to the snow-and-mud-tracked parking lot. “Look, someone’s pulling out right there. We found ourselves a spot.”

I peel my eyes away from him and flip down the mirror on the passenger side like I’ve been in his truck a million times before. I fumble through my purse, find my lip-gloss, and apply some. My lips are still swollen from all that kissing.

The truck slows, so much so that I think William is going to stop in the middle of the road. I look over. William’s eyes are sparking dark heat, steadfastly focused on my lips.

“What?”

“Do you really want to know?” His voice is gravelly, and I’m not sure what he’s thinking.

“Is it this?” I stop applying the gloss and hold up the tube. He gives me a sly grin. “Tell me. It’s only a light pink, but do you think it’s too much for this place?”

“No, I like it. It’s the exact color of your pussy.” He smirks and lifts his gaze to mine. “I was thinking about how your pretty lips would look stretched around my cock.”

I stare at him, speechless, my eyes popping out of my head. I can’t believe he just said that. William doesn’t seem embarrassed in the slightest. He slides into the now empty parking space and turns off the ignition.

Before I can get my seatbelt off, he climbs right over the console to my side. His sexy scent and body heat invade my senses, taking up all the space around me. My heart beats wildly. “What?” I ask, but he doesn’t respond and just slays me with an unreadable expression.
