Chapter Fourteen
Aloud bang thuds atthe front door, and I slowly come around to real life. William draws me in close so there’s no space between my back and his chest. His muscles tense as he tightens his hold protectively. Then another knock comes.
William reaches over me for the blanket on the floor and covers me.
Another bang.
“Hold on,” he gruffly calls out, climbing off the couch. I stare wide-eyed at William as he quickly yanks on his pants and shirt.
“Expecting company?”
His eyes dart to the door.
“Your family?” I grab my clothes and get dressed in about two seconds flat.
“No. None of them owns a car in good enough shape for the mountains. They’re never up here.”
With muscles rippling and ready to do damage, he strides to the door in attack mode. I straighten my shirt and sneak cautiously behind him. Whoever it is pounds on the door again, making the hair on the back of my neck stand straight up.
An uneasy feeling simmers through my veins. “Do you think maybe it’s the sheriff again?”
William peeks out the window and then turns back to me with a look of surprise, or anger. I can’t tell. “Who is it?” I whisper.
“Your brother.”
My eyes bug out of my head. Oh God. “Which one?” I ask, searching for a fragment of hope. Although all my brothers are hot-headed, sometimes Shane, the oldest, is a little less likely to blow his fuse.
“It’s Chase.”
The most hot-headed of all.
William opens the door. My movie-star brother glowers at him without a word. Tight lipped and jaw clenched, he gives William a silent snarl.
The sight of him standing in front of William is like watching my two private worlds collide, and it takes a second to get used to. I swallow a lump in my throat.
“Hey.” I decide to play it cool and give Chase an easy-breezy smile, trying to act like everything is normal.Yep, here I am, I just screwed your mortal enemy. In fact, his cum is inside me right now.“Fancy meeting you here,” I try again with a pleasant smile.
Chase pretty much grunts in response. If he enunciated a word, I couldn’t decipher it.
“Come in,” William offers, stepping aside, giving Chase plenty of room.
Chase stares him down without moving. I can’t tell what’s running through his brain. My guess is Chase is deciding whether to talk or beat the crap out of him.
