I didn’t have much experience pleasing a man, although I didn’t expect it to be too much of a challenge. They seemed to be a simple sort of animal. Easily satisfied.

When Noxx withdrew his hand, he licked the taste of me from his fingertips. He watched with intrigue as I wrapped my hand around his thick erection. “Do you know what you’re doing, lily pad?”

Ignoring his latest nickname attempt, I swallowed down the swell of apprehension that burned in my chest. “I’m pretty sure I can figure it out. Unless you’d prefer that I stop.”

He raised both hands in surrender. “By all means, do as you like. Forget I said anything.”

Stroking a hand up and down his hard length, I sank to my knees before him. His breath came in a heavy sigh. I wasn’t entirely naïve. I’d shared in enough talk with my girlfriends to know what came next. Tentatively, I ran my tongue around the head of him before sucking it into my mouth. When Noxx groaned and softly cursed, I knew I was doing something right.

As I licked and sucked him, I continued to stroke the length of him. I discovered that alternating between gentle licks and sucking him as deep as possible earned me the biggest response.

Noxx watched me intently. I felt his heavy gaze upon me as I did my best to please him. The warm touch of his palm against my cheek made me weak in the worst way. How was it that such a simple touch had so much power?

His hand drifted over to my braid, tightly grasping it at the back of my head. Giving my hair a tug, Noxx forced me to look up at him. That’s when he began to move, to push forward intomy mouth. He stole the control away from me, taking over as his hips moved faster.

Watching as his eyes bled to pure dragon, I felt both excited and afraid. So easily I had made him lose himself, yet bringing out the beastly side of him may prove dangerous. Part of me enjoyed knowing how close I tread to danger. How deadly a man like Noxx could be.

Pain slashed through my scalp as he gripped my hair tighter. Holding me in place as he found his bliss in my mouth. I learned quickly to breathe through my nose so that I wouldn’t choke on his impeccable size.

Noxx took me by surprise when he reached his climax, filling my mouth. The salty yet also sweet taste of him gave me a heady rush. Left with the choice to swallow or spit his release onto the ground, I swallowed. Taking all of him inside me.

Pulling me to my feet, Noxx drew me over to the sheet he’d spread out. Wrapping me in his arms, he pulled me down next to him.

“Why did it have to be you?” he murmured against my hair. “Why did you have to be the one?”

I didn’t need to ask. I knew exactly what he meant. It was a question I’d been asking myself since the night in the fae forest when he first kissed me.

Why did I have to be the keeper of his curse? The one with the key to the cage that held him with no way to turn it and set him free.

I said nothing. Instead, I told myself that when my family had hurt Noxx, he’d been quick to seek revenge. Who was to say that one day he wouldn’t seek revenge against me?

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

NOXX

While Feryn nodded off in my arms, I remained wide awake. There was no safe time to let my guard down. The fae might be anywhere.

I hadn’t slept much since the night in the inn. The night I’d taken Feryn to bed. There was something about this woman that got to me in a dangerous way. Something about her that made me vulnerable.

I didn’t let many people get close to me. For so many years I’d protected myself. Knowing better than to put myself in a position I may regret. So what the fuck was I doing here? What was I thinking?

She felt so goddamn good against me. Feryn snuggled close, one hand tightly gripping my shirt. Her breathing was steady and even, lulling me. It would’ve been so easy to fall asleep next to her. This little traitorous part of me wanted nothing more.

As much as I hated to admit it, she’d been right about one thing. When this was all over, we would go back to our homelands, to our previous lives. To being the enemies that her family had guaranteed we would be.

Thinking back on the past filled me with anger. Every day I’d paid the price for their cruel attack on my people. Now I wasat risk of losing my heart to the one woman they’d made sure would keep me a prisoner in my own body forever.

Where did it stop? Where did I finally draw the line? If we kept going this way, I would grow attached. How would I walk away from her then? Maybe it was already too late for that.

Not for a second had I considered leaving her to the vampires. That first night in the fae prison when I’d attacked her, I’d have happily watched the vampires tear her apart. Now the very thought of anybody laying a hand on her made me crazy with rage.

It was almost dusk when Feryn’s lashes fluttered and her eyes opened. She sat up with a yawn, leaving me to miss her body against mine.

“We should probably eat something before we get moving again,” she said. “I don’t think the food will last too long. How long do you think it will take us to reach the next town?”

I watched her go to the supply bag and dig around until she found the bread and fruit I packed. “It’s hard to say. Depends how many stops we make. Two or three days I would wager. Too bad we can’t simply fly. It would be much faster.”

Feryn sat on the edge of the sheet, keeping her distance. She took a bite of a bread roll before popping a few berries in her mouth. “That’s too risky though. The fae would spot us immediately.”
