Today, she could have died. It had reminded her once again of the fragility of life, and while it would take some more time for her to fully trust Jax again, she knew that she didn't want to be without him. That the connection that had sparked between them that first day was something special that shouldn’t be given up on.

“I'm sure.”

A breath shuddered through him, and his lips pressed to the top of her head, resting there for a long moment before he pressed a finger inside her. As he thrust that finger in and out, adding another, and making sure he caught the spot inside her that already had sensations building inside her, he continued to touch kisses to her head, her temples, her cheeks, her shoulders, anywhere he could touch while his fingers worked their magic and his thumb played with her bud.

“Jax, don’t tease me today, please,” she whimpered as she rocked her hips against his hand. “I want to come, and I want you in me when I do.”

Just like that, she was lifted, spun around, her back pressed against the warm tiles, with Jax’s hands under her backside as he slid home in a single thrust.

“That feels … it feels like … like …”

“Perfection?” he supplied, pulling back and thrust into her again.

“Like home,” she whispered, and it did. “Jax, I don’t want soft and careful, I want?—”

“Hard and fast. I know, princess, I remember.”

With that, he took over, not holding back as he slammed into her again and again, her back bouncing off the tiles with each thrust hard enough to leave bruises. Bruises were good, bruises meant she’d been seen, given what she asked for, what she wanted, what she needed.

His mouth found one of her nipples, and he suckled it hard as his fingers moved to her bundle of nerves, working it furiously, almost to the point of pain, and pleasure curled inside her.

When his teeth closed over her breast, biting just hard enough that she felt the pressure of his teeth break her skin, that curl of pleasureexploded into a hurricane that whipped through her, leaving a trail of ecstasy in its wake. Jax came, too, with a roar of possessiveness before his lips crashed against hers in a fiery kiss that felt like he was branding her soul.

Aftershocks were still rippling through her system, and her breathing was heavy when Jax finally pulled back, pure love shining from his eyes as their gazes met, and Monique knew she’d made the right choice.

“Thank you for seeing me.”

“Always. You’ll never be unseen again.”

She believed that. So long as she had Jax, she would always be seen.

Chapter

Twenty-Three

November 15th

2:44 A.M.

It was dark when they approached the mansion in the early hours of the morning, and yet it seemed like every light in the Gothic building was switched on.

It looked like the whole family was ready to celebrate.

Jax could hardly believe this nightmare was over.

More than that, he could hardly believe that Monique was there, in his arms, ready and willing to give him another chance.

After spending most of his life focusing on this one moment, on having the proof that cleared his dad and stepmom’s names, it felt surreal to know it was done. Tarek Mahmoud, Akio Yamamoto, Richard Gaccione, and Samson Kerr had finally been brought to justice. They were all dead, but in the end, the evidence they’d found buried by Monique’s mom was enough to prove that his father had never conspired with a teammate’s wife to have their team ambushed.

His dad was no traitor, and now the whole world knew it rather than just his family.

Now they were free from the bonds of the past, it was time for all of them to look to the future, and he could think of no better way to celebrate that future than with all the people he loved.

“Looks like everyone’s waiting for us,” Cooper said.

“Probably can't wait to tell Cassandra how much she kicked butt,” Cole teased.

Cassandra smiled, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. While she was the youngest and had been the least affected by the night their parents were dragged out of bed and arrested, Jax thought she was probably going to be the most affected by how this all ended.
