To myoldroom.

I’ve already started to open the door when a voice says from behind me, “Whimsy, honey, you’re not staying in that room anymore.”

I ease the door shut and turn around to face Elias’s mom who came back to his house with me.

“Sorry.” I force a smile, hoping my cheeks aren’t red with embarrassment over my blunder. “Habit.”

“Of course,” she says, patting my shoulder and bypasses me since that’s the room her and her husband are using this time.

I know it was an innocent flub, but I feel bad that his mom witnessed it.

Letting myself in the primary room, I shut the door behind me and head into the closet to return my heels to their rightful spot.

“So stupid, Whimsy,” I mutter, undoing the buttons on my blouse. “Trying to go in the wrong room like a damn amateur.” I lay the shirt aside to add it to the pile that needs to be picked up for dry cleaning. “You’re supposed to be madly in love and that means you wouldn’t go in the wrong room.” I know I’m being unnecessarily hard on myself, but I can’t help it. I want to pull this whole thing off flawlessly.

My skirt is added to the pile and then I reach behind me to unclasp my bra. I might not have the biggest breasts, but does anyone enjoy wearing a bra all day? Slipping my panties off, I put them with my other delicates and step out of the closet only to find I’m not alone.

Elias gapes at me, eyes wide and mouth open. I scream, throwing my arms around myself because I don’t have anything else to cover myself with.

“What are you doing here?” I shriek, looking around for anything I can grab nearby. “Turn around,” I scold with a hiss when he keeps staring.

My panicked words finally spur him into action, and he flips around to face the other wall.

“Why are you naked?” he asks and for some reason starts taking off his own shirt.

“Because I thought I was alone.” I resist the urge to stomp my foot. “I was going to take a bubble bath. We have seriously got to stop running into each other naked,” I groan.

I realize what he’s doing when he holds the t-shirt behind himself for me to grab. I snatch the top and quickly pull it over my body. It barely covers my ass, but it’s certainly better than the state I was in before.

“You can turn back around. I’m covered.” I sigh, trying not to think about the fact that my former boss just saw my nipples.

Fuck, I’m thinking about it again.

He turns hesitantly, his eyes flicking over my body that’s now hidden by his shirt.

He swallows, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “I … uh … got out early.”

I cross my arms beneath my breasts, leaning toward him. “I can tell.”

He scratches the back of his head. “I did … um … text you.”

“My phone died.”

Wetting his lips, his eyes drop to his feet. “Look, I’m sorry. I didn’t even know you were in here and I’m sorry you feel uncomfortable. I didn’t hear you until just now and…” He gestures at me. “Well, it was too late.”

“It’s okay.” I know he didn’t do it on purpose. “This is karmic payback for me walking into the bathroom on you.”

He grins at that, brown eyes crinkling at the corners. “That’s right. Just let me grab my book and the bath is all yours.”

“You read?” I ask sarcastically.

He rolls his eyes as he heads to his nightstand. “Smartass. You’ve had to buy me enough books on the road to know the answer to that question.”

He’s right. I have.

It was one of the things that shocked me most about working for Elias. He reads a lot, and he reads quickly. I tried to convince him to get a kindle, but he wasn’t having it. He wants to hold the real thing.

He taps the spine of his book against his opposite palm. “When you’re done, we need to talk. Jackson wants us to go to this dinner thing. I’ll explain more later.”
