He barks again. I swear, if seals could talk, he’d claim there’s no way Harper could be my woman.
“I know,” Harper says. “I can hardly believe we’re together either.”
I snatch her wrist and pull her closer to me and further away from Sammy. He’s a friendly seal but he’s still a wild animal. She shouldn’t get too close.
Sammy barks and Harper wags a finger at him. “No backtalk. Now, get off of the road before we call the dog catchers.”
The seal growls but he does scoot off of the road, so he won’t get run over. We wave goodbye to him before getting back into my vehicle and recommencing our journey to the resort.
I park in front of the restaurant but Harper makes no move to get out of the SUV. She stares at the building with her mouth gaping open.
“I thought we were going toSmuggler’s Coveto eat. I don’t think I’m appropriately dressed.”
“Are you kidding?” She narrows her eyes on me and I hold up my hands. “Sorry. I meant to say. You look gorgeous and I’m proud to walk into this restaurant with you on my arm.”
She smooths down the skirt of her dress. “If you’re certain.”
“I’m more than certain. Every man in there is going to be envious of me tonight.” I grasp her hand and kiss her knuckles. “But if you’re uncomfortable, we’ll leave.”
“And miss our celebration?”
My blood heats at the taunt in her voice. “There’s more than one way to celebrate.”
Her breath hitches. “I have the ripped panties to prove it.”
“What’ll it be, Harper?”
She clears her throat. “I’ve always wanted to eat here.”
“Your wish is my command.”
I jump out, hurry around to open her door, and offer her my hand. The slit in her dress parts, showing off her curvy legs as she stands. I groan.
My cock is hard and heavy. It’s going to be a long dinner if it doesn’t calm down. She smiles at me, her dimples make an appearance, her blue eyes light up, and I no longer give a fuck how uncomfortable I’m going to be. I want all of her smiles directed at me. I want to give her things she hasn’t had before.
I want to give her the world.
And I will.
One day at a time.
Chapter 33
“Sure, let’s add a meltdown to my to-do list.” ~ Harper
Harper
“You got everything you need, Dad?”
He scowls at me. “Go. Leave me alone.”
I wring my hands. I can’t leave Dad alone. He can barely pick up a glass of water by himself, let alone use the toilet.
Carl is sick today and Kai volunteered to help out. But he’s not here yet. I check my watch. He’s already thirty minutes late. I try calling him again.
This is Kai. You know what to do.
I start to disconnect the call but decide I should probably leave a message instead.
