“If I’d known Julian knew where you were, I would have come to tell you. I didn’t purposely keep him a secret. I didn’t know how to find you. I searched for you every chance I got.”

“That would be Browser’s fault. He erased all the members of our unit from every record. We were never to say we were Americans or identify ourselves. That’s what a forward elite unit does.”

Amelia yawns as I climb back into bed, sliding under the covers. I wrap my naked body around hers and hold her against me. After all these years, I feel like I’m finally home. She’s everything to me.

CHAPTER 5

AMELIA

Iwake up warm, feeling safe and content for the first time in a long while. I start to shift, but arms tighten around me. I realize where I am and what happened. I remain still, not wanting to wake Luke. I can’t believe I begged him to make love to me. But he was the one who woke me several times and made love to me over and over. I ache in areas I haven’t in a very long time.

“I need to get up, but don’t freak out,” he says against my ear.

Trembles ripple across my skin, and goose pimples pop up.

“Why?”

“I’m so hard from you moaning and sighing in your sleep. I thought I took care of you enough during the night.” He chuckles as he pats my hip.

I roll over when I feel him shift. My gaze lands on his toned, muscular ass. I can make out my nail marks on his back and on those slabs of muscles. He stands to the side of the bed, bends down, showing me those balls he unloaded again and again in me last night, and picks up his jeans. He walks into the bathroom and shuts the door.

“Mom, he left,” Jude says, his voice cracking with emotion. He’s standing in my partially opened doorway. “He didn’t sleep in the spare room.”

“No, he’ll be out shortly. He’s in the bathroom.”

Jude’s face flushes red, and he hightails it to the kitchen.

How do I explain to my son why Luke was in my room? Ugh. I roll over and pull the pillow over my head.

“You trying to hide?” Luke chuckles.

“No. Jude just realized we slept in the same bed.”

“Well, he’ll have to get used to his parents being together.”

“What?” I jump up and kneel on the bed, looking at him.

He moves toward me. His big hands slide against my cheeks and into my hair. Luke tips my head back before his lips barely touch the side of my mouth.

“I want to kiss you so bad, but our son is out there waiting. Now get your ass dressed before I say fuck it and fuck you blind again. Know this, you’re the only woman I’ve ever kissed or been with. After I left you, I kept my promise of forever too.” With those words, he walks out the door, leaving me stunned.

I fall backward and stare at the ceiling, carefully touching where his lips just were. He kissed me. Made love to me. And told me I was the only woman for him. I sigh long and loud as I cover my naked body with the sheet.

“Get up, Mom, and come make us some breakfast,” Jude hollers from the other room.

I cover my face. Ugh, that boy is always hungry. I grumble and proceed to get dressed and ready for a Sunday off.

Two hours later, I pull up to the salon. It took a bit to convince Luke I was okay and not canceling myappointment. I need to get my hair done. It’s the perfect way for me to relax and mentally deal with what happened last night. I thought about covering the bruises on my neck and face with makeup, but I decided against it. I have nothing to hide. Luke didn’t do this, and I’ll make that clear to anyone who thinks otherwise.

I dropped Jude off at his friend’s house to hang out. Luke wanted to know who he was with and what they’d be doing. Jude explained that Koda likes to go hiking, and Jude has been wanting to explore our new area. Back in Texas, we didn’t have the forests that they do here.

When Luke found out it was Koda, he was okay with it. Koda’s new stepdad is extremely protective and wouldn’t let him roam around without some kind of security.

Jude was a bit upset at first. But Luke explained that Koda has an older brother who caused problems in the past with their sister who adopted him and their younger sister. Because of that, her husband makes sure the whole family is safe.

That’s when I started to wonder if this was a safe family for Jude to be around. Luke told me he completely approves of Jas and Dr. Ryan. I’m going to have to ask him more about them later when Jude isn’t around.

Jude was too excited to spend time with Koda, who’s two years older than him. Like Jude, Koda isn’t into parties or girls. He used to play football at his public school, but now that he’s at the same school as Jude, he plays lacrosse instead.
