Jade watches me with wide eyes before reaching for Noah’s food. “Daddy!”

“Here you go, princess,” he says with a wide smile, tearing off a piece of pastry and handing it to her. Jade goes straight in, flakes falling onto her mouth and my jumper. I just laugh. “It’s good, isn’t it?” Noah asks her gently.

“So good,” I murmur back.

Noah grins, showing off his dimples before his thumb comes up, wiping the corner of my lips clean. I feel my face warming at his closeness.

“I’m happy you like it, Grey,” he murmurs huskily, eyes simmering with amusement.

Dropping his hand, I quickly swallow my mouthful before wiping the chocolate from his chin and sucking it off my fingertip. Noah’s gaze tracks my movements, and I swear the colour of his irises darkens a shade or two. “Yum,” I add quietly.

His tongue sweeps across his teeth, and the burning sensation in my lower stomach intensifies. Noah’s face comes closer, lips brushing my ear, sending a whisper of air down my neck as his honeyed voice mutters, “You have no idea how much I want to kiss you right now.”

Tingling all over, I hear the air getting caught in my lungs. Thick and heavy, I force down a swallow as bright green eyes peer down into mine. “I…” comes out of my lips as his brows press together, a wrinkle forming between his golden eyebrows. “I don’t think I can yet.”

That melts away some of the doubt shadowing his face as Noah’s mouth pulls upwards into a smile. “It’s okay, Grey. I can wait until you’re ready.”

With a fluttering heart, Noah takes my hand in his and leads us towards another stall. I don’t think my face will ever cool down, because I know he’s waiting to kiss me. And I’m not sure why the idea frightens me, but it does.

“You need your coffee,” he continues while my pulse pounds like a freight train inside my ears.

“And I know you only like iced lattes, so I figured I should try one, too.”

“You don’t have to,” I counter as we wait in line for our caffeine fix.

Noah side eyes me and smirks. “I know I don’thaveto, but I want to, since you talk so highly of them.”

“Okay, but don’t hate me if you don’t like it,” I say, my lips curling upwards.

He peers down at me as Jade’s head whips around, glancing at anything that catches her eye. “I could never hate you, Grey.”

The warm, fuzzy feeling returns to my insides as my smile grows.

“I could never hate you either, thirty-four.”

Chapter Twenty-One

MIA

“Gosh, he sounds so dreamy…” Lila’s voice drawls through the phone as I lean against the headboard of my bed. With my legs crossed, mug of chai in my hand and Lila on loudspeaker, I have settled in for the night, but I can’t seem to be able to control my nerves after spending the whole afternoon with Noah before he had to get home to feed Jade.

I still don’t know if it was a date or not, but either way, I feel like I'm catching some feelings for this man. The way he makes me feel, so airy and calm, is like no other man.

I swipe my tongue over my lips, snuggling into the cushioned backing some more, embarrassed slightly with how I’m feeling over my neighbour. “He’s pretty dreamy in person, too,” I say, biting my lip to keep myself from giggling.

“Yeah, well, I’d like to meet him in person,” Lila adds, and my eyes roll. “You are three hours away.”

“So? I’ll come visit you then,” she offers.

My stomach knots at that, the smile on my face faltering. I don’t want her coming to meet him, not that I think Noah will fall for her, but Lila has a way of not keeping her hands to herself. Wait, am I jealous of her?

I shake my head, not wanting to let that thought overrule me. “Do you think that’s a good idea?”

“Why not? I want to see where you live, and the guys there sound hot.”

That makes my eyes roll so hard they might fall out of their sockets. “Lila…”

“Next weekend?” she suggests, tone hopeful.
