The artwork on the wall passes by in a blur as I jog toward the kitchen, thinking they could be having a cup of coffee or something. Reaching the kitchen, I find it eerily quiet and hear the blood hissing in my ears while the beast claws at my insides.

Acheron wouldn’t betray me and do something he’d regret, I trust him. But the mere thought of him being here, alone, with Kenzi, sets my nerves bouncing and my wrath roiling.

Pinching the bridge of my nose, I close my eyes and attempt to assuage the beast within, silently asking him to retract his claws so I can breathe a little easier.

Laughter bubbles up, floating down the hallway and I curse aloud and follow the sound. My palms are itchy and my jaw hurts from clenching it so hard. It forces me to remember a time in high school when I felt this exact way.

Of course Kenzi can still manage to jump on my last damn nerve after eleven years.Fuck her. Rounding the corner and stepping into my library, I find Acheron perched on one single leather seat and Kenzi on the other.

All previous thoughts of checking the video feed today to see if Kenzi disobeyed me and played with her pretty little clit evaporate as I take in my surroundings.

Floor to ceiling bookshelves line the sides of the room in dark mahogany, accompanied by timber floorboards and a fire roaring behind Kenzi and Acheron as they sip what appears to my fucking liquor. Usually I’d take the time to admire this room with its massive windows looking over the ocean and amass of ancient books on the ledges, but with the way Kenzi is giggling at one of Acheron’s stupid jokes I fail to see the beauty in it.

The growl gurgles up at seeing her sitting there in a black and white pleated skirt and tank top with thigh high socks on. Clearly Kenzi found her suitcase, because I sure as fuck didn’t purchase that shit. Does she think she’s back in high school or is she pushing my buttons, seeing if she can provoke me? Who knows with this girl. All I know is its been less than twenty four hours since she left the dungeon and anyone looking at her wouldn’t even realize she’s been locked up for weeks. She shines bright, her blue black hair shimmering from the sun pouring in the window, those lips turned up into a full smile. She’s oblivious to the peril surrounding her and the beauty she emits. Kenzi is rapacious, stealing fragmented pieces of my fucking control.

The growl leaving my throat sounds guttural and it causes Acheron’s head to snap toward me. There’s a glimmer in his eyes, devilry oscillating inside them, but my attention moves from him to Kenzi in a nanosecond.

The air is charged. Danger and debauchery hangs heavy as I take in their equally intense blue eyes while they both study me.

Kenzi lowers the glass to the small table between them and seems uncertain. Acheron, however, looks anything but, if I go by the shit eating grin plastered on his face.

“Brother, we’ve been waiting for you,” he announces and the way Kenzi winces I’m certain they were not waiting for me at all.

Fire and ice augments within. Such a contradictory of emotions, but none the less fitting. I’m seeing flickering flames behind my irises but my veins are doused in ice. They look chummy and I know exactly what he’s doing, and I want to kill him for it.

“Really? And why are you here, brother?” I ask.

“Catching up with Kenz. It’s been a long time between drinks and all that.” He picks his tumbler up and downs the liquor. “Would you like one?”

The fucking nerve of this asshole.

I nod my head once and wait while Acheron saunters over to the small bar in the corner with a smirk. I hate how his muscles ripple under his clothes. By the look on Kenzi’s face, she notices it as well.

I take the single seat to the left of her, lean back with my arms behind my head in the luxurious leather and leer at her.

Kenzi’s face pinks and her eyes gloss over me from head to toe. She gulps loudly then crosses her legs at the ankle. My face kicks up at the sides, knowing she’s trying to relieve that bundle of nerves down below.

“Miss me, Dark One?” I tease.

She flips me off and I laugh out loud when Kenzi sweeps her tumbler off the table and gulps it down.

The laughter dries up in my throat when Acheron speaks.

“Here, sweetness, have another,” he says to Kenzi while looking at me with that boyish smirk.

She giggles awkwardly and takes the glass from his hand. He extends his other toward me. I want to throw the drink in his god damn face then punch him. Instead, I snatch the tumbler from his hand and take a drink.

My eyes spit daggers at Acheron, which only has his smile slithering up higher, making his scar pull at the sides and him look more like The Joker, if that’s possible.Asshole.

I tear my gaze away from Acheron when I feel her watching me curiously. “What?” I snap.

Kenzi shakes her head in what looks like disappointment before sipping on her drink. Acheron falls ungracefully in the seat beside her and the room is basked in silence. The only sound is the fire cracking in the background.

“You’re looking good, Kenz. The years have been kind to you,” Acheron purrs, his eyes on mine.

Kenzi sinks her teeth into her lip and the blush radiates over her skin from head to toe. I’m ready to neck my brother, especially seeing Kenzi enjoyed his compliment.

Jealousy wraps its hands around my throat but I swallow the emotion down and turn to my Dark One. “You like Acheron paying you attention, hmm?”
