I ignore him and focus on Justyce. “I want to take the girls some luxuries. Clothes, makeup, food — all that kind of stuff. When I told them I would be back, I saw it in their eyes, J. They didn’t believe me. I don’t want to let them down.”
He offers me a small, strained smile. “That’s fine, Raine. I am happy for you to visit them; just don’t let it obscure your judgment and your commitments, alright?”
I nod in acknowledgement and exit the room, heading out the front door and walking a couple of doors down the road to my house.
My head aches with how much I’ve been crying and the lingering effects of the alcohol. My body craving a little something to help alleviate some of the pressure and pain I’m experiencing.
When I enter my house, I walk straight to my room with the intent of swallowing a couple of pills and drowning in a bottle of vodka. I just need a couple — enough to make me forget for a little while.
With the pills in hand, I grab the bottle of vodka and press it to my lips.
“Don’t you fucking dare, Raine.”
I freeze, my body locking up when I turn and find Acheron standing in my room.
“Put the bottle and the pills down, Raine; I’ve got something else that’ll help you forget.”
Chapter14
Raine
I’m stunned into silence, the bottle of vodka shaking in my hands as I stare at Acheron, standing ramrod straight in my doorway.
How the fuck did he get in without me hearing him?I wonder to myself.
Straightening my spine, I bring the bottle to my lips and watch the vein tick in Acheron’s jaw. “Don’t.”
Slamming the vodka down on my dresser, bottles of my perfumes clamor with the force, and I can feel my patience waning. It’s been a fucking day.
“What the fuck do you want now?”
He rolls his eyes like I’m an insolent child, yet he’s the one who’s shown up unannounced and uninvited to my fucking house.
“Clean yourself up and get into something presentable. I’ll be waiting in the living room.”
He turns away, giving me his back, but he stops when I call out. I can’t believe I’m entertaining this asshole.
“Where are we going?”
“You’ll see.”
Then he leaves without saying another word. My eyes drift to the pills and vodka, my body itching to submerge in their foggy bliss. However, Justyce’s words ring loudly in my mind, and I turn away and get ready for an evening with Acheron. Who would have thought?
Half an hour later, I’m dressed in tight, black, ripped jeans, a red tank that dips low and shows off my cleavage, with a black leather jacket over the top, and a pair of red-bottom stilettos. I grab my black leather cuff with diamonds running down the middle, which covers the majority of my wrist, plus a hidden blade inside. A girl can never be too careful.
Loose beach waves hang down my back, the wild orchid tresses are styled to match my attire. Considering I don’t know where the fuck we’re going, I swiped some mascara and eyeliner on, pairing it with a red gloss lipstick.
My heels click on my shiny white tiles, the black walls are lined with morbid but pretty art, and I can’t help but shift my eyes to the white ceiling. The intricate cornices and patterns are really something else. I’m stalling, slowing myself down, because when it comes to Acheron, I don’t know what to expect, especially after today and the way my body reacted to him.
I reach the lounge area and take a moment to appreciate my tastes. It is one of my favorite parts of the house, and I have to admit I had the most fun in here when I decorated it.
I went with a speakeasy kind of vibe, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Right at the back of the room is a painted black fireplace lined with purple and black candles. The black, crushed velvet lounges and midnight purple cushions accompanying them sit in front, overlooking the backyard through a massive arch floor-to-ceiling window.
The shiny white tiles are covered with huge rugs, the white peeking out from underneath and the black walls setting off the mood. I’m so busy admiring the room that I jump when I hear a throat clearing behind me.
Spinning around, I glare at a smirking Acheron.
“Ready, princess?”
