“I didn’t mean to,” I rush out. “You started drinking the vodka and I froze. I’m sorry.”

His forehead wrinkles in thought, and I’m waiting for him to lash out at me, but instead he offers me a smirk, surprising me.

“You’re lucky I’m in a good mood, little girl,” he teases, and I swat at him, the heaviness weighing down on my chest lifting and easing my anxiety.

“Thank fuck,” I mutter. “Let’s dance!”

Acheron humors me, allowing me to drag him on the small dance floor, which ultimately has every other person fucking except for us. I laugh at him when he grabs my hand, swinging me around and drawing me back into his arms.

We collide, our laughter dying on our tongues when he looks down at me. There is heat there, something I’ve only ever seen glimpses of. He pulls me through the depravity on the dancefloor, a darkness passing through his eyes when he looks over his shoulder at me as I follow him.

My eyes dart around, relief settling in when I don’t see Gabe anywhere. Acheron yanks me through a set of doors I hadn’t seen before and down a long corridor. We come to a door and stop. He glances at me again, the hunger in his eyes evident when he fishes out the key in his pocket and unlocks it.

My eyes go wide at that, even wider when he pushes me through the door and I see the chains, whips, floggers, and other things lining the walls. Dimmed electric blue lights cascade around the room, casting a shade of midnight blue along the walls. I open my mouth to question him, but he silences me with a kiss that steals my voice and plants an erupting volcano in my core.

He nips at my lips, squeezing my nipples to the point of pain, but I welcome it, relishing in the sting he provides me with.

“These tits,” he mutters, and I moan into his mouth, my tongue dueling with his again.

He picks me up, yanking my skirt up, and my core grinds along his hard cock, causing me to buck into him and chase the orgasm I’m so needy for.

We kiss and kiss, not taking it any further besides humping and groping like a couple of horny teenagers. Our phones start blaring around us, and we freeze. The bubble we were in pops abruptly, and I slide down his torso. We both step back from one another, our breaths coming out roughly.

My hand clutches my chest, and I clear the lust-induced fog I was in and look around the sex dungeon I’m standing in the middle of.

“Fuck!” Acheron curses, slashing his hand through his dark hair and whipping his phone out of his pocket. “It’s Justyce,” he says, his eyes flicking to me before darting back to his phone.

Shame and humiliation drive a stake through my frantically beating heart, and I reach for my phone, seeing the message from Justyce.

The drugs in my system feel like they’ve shriveled up and died, my mind clearing but my soul fracturing.

I straighten my top and skirt, finding a mirror on the ceiling over the bed, and I lay down to check my face. I swipe away the eyeliner under my eyes and grab some lip gloss from my bra.

After I’m a little happier with the way I look, I move toward the door and open it, but Acheron speaks, halting my movements.

“Raine…”

“Don’t. Let’s just go.”

I hear him let out what sounds like a defeated sigh, and he follows me out, locking the door as he exits. I want to ask him what the room is and if it’s his, but the tension between us is thick; not even a blade as sharp as mine could cut through it.

Briskly, I walk through the club, my body feeling and sensing him before I even see him. My eyes land on Gabe, sitting in a booth in the corner, an older lady by his side. His eyes meet mine across the club and he goes to move from his place, but the lady beside him lets out a loud laugh, and he looks at her quickly before moving his eyes to me again.

Something slices through my heart — something I don’t want to think about or put a name to. How could I have been so fucking stupid…again? I shake my head, willing the tears away and run for the door.

Acheron yells out, but I banish his voice, feeling the world cave in around me as I rush out the door of the club.

The breeze billows around me, and I welcome the frigid air, closing my eyes for a moment to try and gain some clarity. My eyes pop open, and I jump when I hear the club door behind me open and smash into the wall from the force put behind it. I close my eyes again briefly, trying to forget what just happened while I accept the fuck-up I am in the next breath.

“Raine,” Acheron growls. “Stop.”

“I don’t want to talk about it. Can we just go? Please,” I finish with a whisper.

I chance a glance at him and find him clenching his fists tightly at his thighs, a look of resignation and determination both warring in his pretty eyes.

“Fine. But we will talk about this, Raine.”

I’m sure we will. I think to myself, not wanting to voice it.
