Winter <3
I finish on a hiccup, my voice raw and scratchy. I managed to get through the entire entry without stopping, but I can feel their heated and judgmental stares from here. I’m scared to lock eyes with any of them, especially Acheron, but when the coffee table is pushed and scratches along the ground, I look up to find Acheron and Arrow standing toe to toe.
Justyce stands between them, and a sob ratchets out of my mouth when Arrow turns his cold eyes on me. “You fucked your own brother. For fuck’s sake, Raine, that’s low even for you!” he booms, and I shrink back from his callous words.
“For the last time,Brother,” Acheron seethes in a threatening manner. “We did not fuck, and you will not talk to her like that ever again. Just because your feelings are hurt doesn’t give you a pass to be even more of an asshole than you already are being.”
“Yeah,” he scoffs, “I’m the asshole, and I also make the Virgin Mary look like a slut. Fuck off and stop lying to me!”
“We didn’t, Arrow, I promise.” I try, but it comes out distorted through my sobs.
“I don’t believe you, any of you.”
“Arrow, sit the fuck down right now. They didn’t fuck, and beside the point, that’s the least of our worries right now.”
Justyce turns to me and closes the distance between us. “Are you ok, have you read beyond this entry?”
I shake my head, and he sighs, wrapping me in his arms. “It’s ok, Rainey; it’s ok. You didn’t know, none of this is your fault.”
I lock eyes with Arrow, shifting my gaze to Acheron over his shoulder. Arrow looks livid, a hint of sorrow and pain in his eyes, but Acheron only looks defeated but determined, not disgusted like I initially figured he’d feel. I have to admit, I’m grateful for that at least.
The vein thrums frantically under his scar on the side of his throat, and I see the decision in his eyes before he voices it. His eyes collide with mine, and I swallow against the ball in my throat.
“You think he’s the one who killed your parents.”
I nod my head, knowing without even reading the rest of my mother’s diary, that I’ll find that very answer.
“I’m going to fucking kill him!” he roars, storming toward the door.
“Ach, wait,” Justyce demands, but Acheron flips him off over his shoulder, wrenching the door open and slamming it in its wake.
“Fuck!” Justyce curses. “I need to go after him.” He looks between Arrow and myself and says, “Can I trust you both in the same room as each other?”
“Don’t sweat it, man; I’m out. I’m not dealing with this bullshit along with the rest of the chaos that is my life.”
Wetness covers my face at his outburst. I reach out my hand and open my mouth to call after him, but Justyce grabs my wrist, shaking his head.
Chapter29
Raine
Justyce leads me toward the garage, calling out to Kenzi as he does. I’m shoved down the hallway with both their voices surrounding me, but I can’t hear a fucking thing. My heart feels like it’s broken, splintered and shattering under the weight of everything that’s happened over the past few weeks, my mind a shell of what it once thought it knew.
Kenzi’s arms wrap around me, and the only reason I know it’s her is from her ocean scent. I hug her back weakly before she pushes away from me, offers me a sad smile, and kisses my cheek.
She and Justyce exchange a few words before his arm is wrapped around my shoulders and he’s leading me toward the garage. He opens the car door and I slide in, barely registering the cool leather underneath me.
We belt up and reverse out of the driveway, Justyce lingering until the gate is shut up tight. After Kenzi’s abduction, he won’t take any chances with her safety.
Once his house is secure, he drives straight to Acheron’s house and we both hop out and enter through his front door, with Justyce gaining entrance from his scanner at the front.
“Ach, brother, where are you?”
We stand in silence in the dark entrance, listening for any sound, and when we hear his car start up and peel out of the driveway, we run out after him, the door slamming behind us.
He sits in his car behind the closed gate and salutes us. “You’re not stopping me this time, brother. That cunt has fucked with me for the last time.”
I stand there dumbfounded, my head unable to form any words. The tires screech, leaving a trail of burning rubber and smoke in their wake, snapping me from my ruminations.
