The closer she gets, the more I can see the strain and tension in her face. Something happened, but with that look on her face I know she isn’t willing to talk about it.

When she gets closer to the truck, I close the distance between us, and she wraps me in her arms.

“Congratulations, Wench.”

I start crying again and Arrie squeezes me tighter.

“You knew?”

“Of course I knew. We’ve been planning it.”

“Assholes.”

Arrie laughs but we don’t let go of each other.

“I hate you.”

“No, you don’t.”

“Not even a little bit.” I say through a sob. “Are you ok?”

Arrie stays quiet for a few seconds, before untangling herself from me and answering me.

“I’m not, but I will be.”

I give her a nod, because I know that’s all I’m getting tonight.

“Congrats, Dottie!” Adam calls out, sidling up to Arrie and cradling her under his arm. “Come on, baby, let’s get you home.”

Arrie smiles at him before focusing back on me.

“Congratulations again. I’m happy for you. Oh, and dad if you hurt her, I’m cutting your balls off!” Arrie yells out, and I hear Damon groan inside the car.

“Alright, now fuck off so I can get my fiancé home.”

“Ew, yuck. That’s my cue. I’ll call you tomorrow, ok?”

“Ok.”

We say our goodbyes and I watch them disappear before Iget into the truck. Damon starts the engine and pulls away from the curb. Swallowing, I glance down at the ring and smile before turning to focus on Damon.

“I love you.”

“I love you more, and I’m going to show you just how much as soon as we get home.”

Well damn!

Chapter Thirty-Nine

DAMON

She said yes.

I can’t wipe the damn smile off my face.

I swear I break a few traffic rules on the way home, but I don’t give a shit. All I can focus on is getting my girl home to show her exactly how much she means to me, and how happy she’s made this grumpy old bastard. If that means fucking her to an inch of her life so she can’t walk straight tomorrow, then that’s what I’m going to do.

“You know I’m not going anywhere, right?”
