“Now you’re being ridiculous.” I rolled my eyes as he walked toward me, tilting my chin to look at him. He was breathing heavily, and his eyes were filled with worry.

“I was seeing his sister. That’s true. Not for long, and I broke it off because there was someone else.” He sank to his knees, taking my hands into his. I didn’t dare breathe as he spoke, my eyes fixed on his muscular chest visible through his vest.

“She wasn’t from our school. I liked her, and she cheated on me with Sam White.”

“Oh God,” I whispered, their apparent hatred for each other suddenly crystal clear. He kissed my hand as he gazed at me, regret and shame in his eyes.

“Yeah. They split not long after, but I was seeing Elena by that point. You know the rest. He did it just because he could. Payback,” he said bitterly as I shook my head in disbelief.

“So that’s why he wants to be friends with me.” I realized, groaning.

Bailey frowned then, hauling himself onto the bed beside me.

“Nah, I’m not saying that. You’re stunning. Inside and out. My guess is he met you and thought, wow. Then he saw you were with me, and well, who knows. Maybe he thought, more revenge? Maybe he didn’t. But I don't want him anywhere near you.”

I ran my hands up his arms as I leaned into him, his delicious smell enveloping me as he kissed the top of my head.

“I love you so much, Fenton,” I murmured as I felt him pull me onto his lap, burying his face into my neck.

“I love you more.”

Our mouths met, and we kissed slowly; this time, it didn’t escalate like it usually did. This time we kissed and held each other, reaching a new level between us. Suddenly I understood why Sam and Bailey disliked each other, and I didn’t want to be part of that. I’m not a pawn to be played.

“Choose a movie, baby. Then, I’ll grab us some food.” He kissed me again before sliding me off him and tossed me the PlayStation controller so I could bring Netflix up. I watched him leave, the muscles in his back on display despite the vest. I wanted him so much it was ridiculous.

I sifted through the films as I yawned and crawled into the bed. The cool sheets quickly warmed beneath me, and I began to doze as the film started to play. By the time Bailey came up, I was fast asleep. I didn’t notice him slide my phone out as he located Sam’s number and entered it into his phone before sending a text.

I didn’t hear the reply or see the satisfied look on Bailey’s face as he tossed his phone onto the side.

I slept soundly as he curled his body around mine, wrapping his arms around me as he breathed in my scent.

“Sleep well, my Queen.”

BAILEY

BAILEY: White. Meet me tomorrow, anytime, any place. This shit stops here.

SAM: This isn’t a western; I assume we are gonna talk like adults? Meet me at six at my dad’s garage.

The following day...

Sam was a handsome bastard, but he was still a bastard. He smiled as he saw me approach, flicking his cigarette away.

“Let me guess; you’re here to warn me of your current girlfriend, right?”

He leaned on the hood of his car as I stared at him with hatred.

How fucking dare he be so calm about it?

“Just friends, Fenton. Hannah was different. I’m not out to steal your girlfriend.”

At the mention of Hannah, familiar jealousy stirred in my stomach when I remembered him fucking her while she was with me.

“Yeah, sorry that shit didn’t work out for you.” I retorted as he nodded slowly, studying me. I stood in front of him, my arms folded as I decided just to say what I wanted to and get out of there.
