“I think it’s cute.” He leans down to kiss the top of my head. “But I guess I am making fun of you. A little bit.”

It’s clear everyone in the neighborhood respects Egorr, even though he’s sometimes awkward and doesn’t know what to say, and I adore that about him.

The longer we go about our daily lives together, the more comfortable and happy I feel. We still sleep in our separate bedrooms, which is one of my sticking points. Though life is good and easy together, I still wonder how this will all end. There’s no time limit to a trial marriage, but Egorr hasn’t proposed to me, either. I’m nervous about getting too close, enmeshing our lives too deeply, in case it doesn’t work out in the long term.

The more time passes, though, the more just the thought of it brings tears to my eyes. I can’t imagine life without Egorr anymore, but it’s still a possibility this could all end with me going home.

I just hope that he decides he wants me to stay—forever.

I continue taking the warm water baths for another two weeks. Then one morning, I check the calendar that Egorr keeps hanging in the hallway, and find that today has been circled in blue marker.

It’s been one month since that fateful night. We can finally try again.

I’m bouncing up and down by the time Egorr gets home. I don’t think he realizes what day it is as he steps in the door like he usually does after work, and I practically throw myself at him.

“Egorr! Guess what, guess what?”

He blinks down at me. “What?”

“I’m healed! I think.”

He doesn’t look as happy as I expected him to, though.

“We should schedule another doctor’s appointment so we can be sure,” he says, a note of caution in his voice.

I falter. “Really? But everything feels good.”

Egorr wraps an arm around me and hugs me against his side. “I know. But… Maddie.” When he releases me, he kneels in front of me and takes both my hands in his. “I never want to hurt you again. That was the worst day of my life, knowing I’d done that to you.”

I look down into his earnest face and immediately my impatience and frustration drains away. He’s so good—almost too good.

“Fine.” I pout. “But can we go to the doctor soon?”

“I’ll call right now.”

Egorr sets an appointment, but it’s not for two more days, which feels like an eternity to me. Then he invites me to sit on the couch and we play a few rounds of Blast Karts together, until we can’t keep our hands off of each other anymore, and I strip off Egorr’s pants right there. When he comes, he paints my face and neck, and he hastily apologizes for getting it all over me. I laugh, then take off my own clothes and invite him to take a shower together.

Under the hot water, Egorr pulls my naked body against his and holds me tight.

“I can’t wait to use the training kit,” he says, stroking my wet hair.

I wiggle, squeezing my breasts against him. “Yeah? So you can fuck me?”

He hums. “That’s right. We’re going to work you up to my cock.” Egorr leans down. “And then I’ll fuck you so many times you’ll beg me to stop.”

I shiver all over at the thought.

ChapterSixteen

It’s the longest two days of my life, but finally the afternoon of our appointment arrives. I can’t seem to stop talking, too excited about my checkup to slow down. Egorr chuckles when we arrive at the office and I let out a little squeal.

“I’ve never seen someone so excited to go to the doctor before,” he muses, opening the door for me.

When we’re finally in the exam room, we’re attended by the faun once again.

“Good to see you.” She sits on her stool and brings out my chart. “Almost exactly four weeks. How do you feel?”
