By then, it was almost completely dark, and I only got flickering glimpses of his face. I reached up to caress his scaled face as he had done to me. “I love you, Koha’vek,” I whispered.

“And I love you, my Ava.” I never thought he would say it back. Itmade me love him even more.

He moved slowly, thrusting in and out of me gently until I could relax enough for him to move more freely. He moved steadily faster until he was pushing hard and deep, pounding into me.

The fire in the living room burned down to coal and no longer shed light on our joining. I should have been horrified to be fucking an alien with scales, but I was exhilarated. I luxuriated in being pounded into by a big, powerful male. I could feel his balls slapping my ass every time our hips slammed together. This incredible beast seemed to hit both the sweet spot inside and my clit with almost every thrust.

My taut nipples rubbed against his chest, and I huffed out my breath with every thrust. I cried out with two more orgasms before Koha’vek finished and poured his essence into me in hot surges. I came one last time, and this time he teased me through it until he could no longer thrust in and out of me.

At first, I didn’t realize what was happening. It occurred to me that we should have discussed this beforehand, since we weren’t the same species.

“Are we stuck?” I asked in a neutral tone.

“Yes, we are knotted.”

“How long?”

“Until I go soft.” He rolled us over so I lay on top of him and pulled a blanket over us. The embers in the fireplace had almost completely faded, so I was glad to be covered. Resigned to our fate, I lay my head against his chest and basked in the feel of him under me and inside me.

Underneath the blanket, Koha’vek held me in his arms, intermittently rubbing my back until I fell asleep.

Koha’vek

Mine! That realization dominated all thought as I held my Ava in the dark of the cabin we shared. My only regret was that I hadn’t discussed the first mating customs or knotting with her beforehand.

Admittedly, I was afraid she might reject me either for that reason or because I’d misread her feelings for me. Now I lay in post coital euphoria knotted, contemplating our future together.

What kind of future could that be? I was a fugitive alien on a planet my species had nearly destroyed. I could spend the rest of my life in prison, no matter if the cyborgs or my people found me.

I should have let Ava go as soon as she was well enough to traveland disappeared into the mountain forests as I had done after I left our base in Montana. But I felt a tug at my soul the moment I lifted Ava into my arms that first day. I’d never felt that from another being before.

I only had second thoughts when she woke up screaming when she first saw me standing over her. The humans I cared for at the base were already past such a reaction by the time they came to me. I had found them an interesting species. Humans are sentient, intelligent beings. We should not have been poaching them to sell on the black market for pets and sex toys. The practice disgusted me.

Subcommander Gar’hako showed me a video of how he had tormented the human female he claimed for himself. I’d heard months later that the cyborgs had raided the base and rescued the captive humans. I could only hope Gar’hako got what he deserved.

Finally, I went soft and pulled out of Ava. She moaned softly as I did. I turned us on our sides and held her close. “Sh, sh, my love. I’ve got you. We are safe for now.”

Chapter Nine

Ava

When I woke late in the morning alone on Koha’vek’s nest, my mood seemed to bounce back and forth between elation and apprehension. He had clearly been performing a mating ritual, and the result was amazing. I’d never heard of knotting, but then I never fucked an alien before.

As I had come to care for Koha’vek, he seemed less and less alien. The knotting was just a reminder. However, it didn’t change how I felt about him. I was just worried about the future.

Letting Jenkins’s men go was probably a mistake. They would find their way back and bring more men with them. Had Koha’vek killed them, more men would come looking for them. I didn’t see how we could stay here now that they’d found me and seen Koha’vek.

I sighed, turning back the blanket, and got up to retrieve my clothes from the floor, carrying them into the bathroom with me. I knew Koha’vek wasn’t far away. The fire hadbeen stoked, and the cabin was warm. I found him squatting at the hearth, roasting what looked like a rabbit over the open fire. There were also some root vegetables boiling in a pot, suspended over the fire.

Koha’vek looked up as I entered the room. “Did you sleep well, my mate?”

“Very well.” I smiled at him.

There was a gleam in his golden eyes that I couldn’t quite read and a very slight smile on his lips. I could easily imagine what he might be thinking as my mind kept going back to our joining. Just thinking about it caused a flutter of awareness in my core.

I was in love with a monster, and I was OK with that. But I knew there was so much more to Koha’vek than his alien appearance.

“How long do you think it will be before Jenkins sends more men?”
