“Is that really true?” I took the glass out of his hand.
“Scout’s honor. Her name was Trina, and she always won fantasy football. I still get a Christmas card every year.” He sat down on his couch and patted a spot beside him. “Don’t worry. Bisexuality isn’t something you can catch. You're born that way.”
“Smartass.”
“Are you… My sister gave me a real talking to this afternoon.”
“Yeah, she shot me several glances throughout the day. I was mortified that she caught us.”
“It’s not like she’s never seen two people play tonsil hockey before.”
“Yeah, I’m sure. But…”
“You’re having second thoughts?”
“I’m here at your place and sitting on your bisexual couch, aren’t I?”
“True.”
“I just want to make sure that we have our rules in place before we…”
“There are rules? Wow… And here I thought I was gonna get to do whatever I wanted.”
I leaned back on the couch. “That’s… not what I meant. I mean, we should keep it professional at work until we… take this seriously. If we do, I mean.”
He sighed and slowly put his arm around me. “Can I tell you a very sad story before I rip your clothes off?”
“I guess.” I leaned into him and put my head on his shoulder.
“Do you know how many people I have ever… been even semi-serious with? I think the number might astound you.”
“Sure.”
He tightened his arm and pulled me in tighter. “There was one person, and he was a real piece of work. His name was Tad, and we went to school together. He was an actor, or at least that’s what he thought he was. He was so bad. But he was cute and funny, and I developed a big old crush on him. We dated for a few months, and then one day he came up to me and told me that he found me boring. I watched too much sports and didn’t get excited enough about Beyonce and Taylor Swift.”
I gasped. “You don’t like our queens?”
“They're fine. I like their music, but I’m always going to be the guy who gets more excited about a Giant’s victory than an album. I’ll probably always choose to go to the gym before brunch. He didn’t like that. I sulked for a bit, but I knew it wasn’t right. That we weren’t right, you know. And that, my friend, is it.”
“Wait. You’ve only ever been with Tad?”
“Oh, are you talking about sex? No. I fucked anything that moved for quite a while, but it was never more than a hookup. It wasn’t until I moved back home that I started to even think about that again. So far, there’s only been one person that I’m… kind of into.”
“Me?”
“Yes, dumbass. You. It’s why you’re the one sitting here on my couch. It’s why I invited you to the gym to meet my friends. I’m… into this, and I know that’s kind of dumb. I mean, we barely know each other, but I'm really glad we’re… here. Aren’t you?”
“I am.”
“Now, I have thought about this all day, and I could keep talking to you as long as you want, but I really want to get younaked and do unspeakable things to you. Of course, if you want to brag to my sister…” He laughed. “I’m sure she’d be very happy to hear all about it.”
“I’m not the kind to kiss and tell.”
“Oh, I’m gonna tell my friends all about it. Honestly, I can’t wait.”
“That’s… I’m not sure what to say to that.”
“Please just take my hand,” he moved his arm and reached down. I placed mine in his. “And let me take you upstairs.”
