But then it came back around to needing to know more about Gina. Was she just a woman who saw a way to get an easy life by having a baby with one of the Saint’s Outlaws MC members, and did the opportunity with Justice by himself at the bar just present itself? Or was Justice targeted specifically? Right now, Adley had toomany questions and not enough answers. She’d go home, head to bed, and start fresh tomorrow. Hopefully, Macy could do a little digging before she flew home on Sunday.
Maybe Macy could help her figure out reasons that falling for Justice was a horrible idea and better reasons than he was in an MC.
Chapter Seven
Adley was helping her mom finish fixing lunch while they were waiting on Macy. Adley had spent the majority of Saturday shopping and taking notes. Her sister hadn’t had time to research while she was gone but said she’d get on that this afternoon after lunch.
Adley had another case to be in court for this week unless the charges were dropped. It was a slam dunk because her client wasn’t even in Kansas City for what she was accused of, and they had video to prove it. She was waiting for the email stating they were going to be dropping the charges.
Adley loved the justice system when it worked. When corrupt individuals played the system, it ticked Adley off.
Macy walked into the kitchen, and Adley turned to hug her. Her mom wasn’t going to let Adley be the only one hugging Macy, so they ended up in a three-person hug.
“So, representing Justice, huh?” her sister commented, smirking.
Her mom cackled. “Oh yes, I think Adley’s going to be hard-pressed not to jump Justice’s hot body.”
“Mom!” Adley groused.
“Honey, he’s got it all. Hot biker who’s a veteran, and, oh my! I dropped by for barbecue and the club was there. Tattooed, hot man holding a baby. Honey, if you weren’t interested, I might consider going all cougar on him,” Judith said.
Adley and her sister gagged.
Her mom shook her head. “Girls, I’m only eighteen and twenty years older than you. Fifty-six doesn’t mean sex ceases to exist. I mean, do you honestly think that in eighteen years, Adley, that you won’t be interested in it? Or you, Ms. Out For A Good Time? Is your love channel going to be no longer available for a ride?”
Adley chuckled. “Oh Mom, I needed that laugh. I apologize. I’m sure your love channel is just as ready as Macy’s for a ride.”
“Hey, talk about your own love channel! And where the hell did you get the term love channel, Mom?” Macy asked.
“You know, I dearly love you girls, but you don’t actually believe that I just exist in this house when you’re not around, waiting until you come visit, do you?” Judith asked.
“Well,” her sister sputtered.
Seriously, sometimes Adley wondered how her sister could be so smart and so dingy at the same time.
“Of course we don’t, Mom,” Adley said, hugging her mom a little tighter.
“It was at book club. One of the books we read recently called it that. I can’t remember which one because we’re all quick readers. We meet weekly and discuss a different book each time. Now, let’s eat because when you girls’ mouths are full, you can’t say something to irritate me,” Judith said, putting the food on the table.
Adley sat down, filled her plate, and played nice when she really wanted to bug her sister about if she’d researched anything while she was waiting on her flight. Macy hadn’t had her bank of computers, but she had her laptop, and Macy could do a lot with it.
“So, the place I went to in Colorado that would like for me to do some stuff is nestled in this canyon, and it’s Christmas all year long there,” her sister said.
“What? How does that happen?” Adley asked.
“Well, the town is a tourist town, so all the shops are Christmas-themed and have Christmas activities. Their biggest season is October through New Year’s, but they, hmm, how can I explain this? It’s always Christmas, but like on Valentine’s Day, they have special packages for couples. It was very interesting, and, like, their crime is almost non-existent,” her sister said before taking another large slice of the ham her mom had baked.
“Did you not eat there?” Adley questioned.
“Oh no, the food was fantastic, but there was a wreck near the airport, and I almost missed my flight, so no breakfast at the airport. I’m starved, but I promise I’ll dive into Justice’s case today. I also think it’s time to take the gloves off and research Detective Stanza. I know that you didn’t want to investigate a police detective, but I think we’re past that. Your notes are screaming at me that we need to do anything and everything to get the facts,” Macy said.
“I agree with you. It was strange that he wouldn’t wait until an actual warrant could be issued. I mean, the arrogance of thinking he could get Justice to confess to something and then the warrant wouldn’t matter. He lied. He brought Justice in on false pretenses. There are so many things wrong with his thinking,” Adley said, getting up and refilling everyone’s drinks. She was too unsettledto just sit. Everything about this bothered her. Yeah, some of it could be chalked up to her being on edge since the incident with her being followed, but she didn’t think that was it. Something smelled off about this case.
“Well, you ladies will do better on full stomachs. Eat up, and since I knew it would be a busy week for both of you, I made you pizza crusts and assembled all the ingredients along with some individual meatloaves. You can just pop them in the oven when you’re hungry and eat something homemade,” Judith said.
“Oh, if I tie up Macy in your closet, does that mean I can take double of both home?” Adley asked.
“Hey, if you want your research done, I’m going to need Mom’s pizza and her meatloaf. Besides, have you been skipping thegym? Those jeans look a little tight in the butt. Are they cutting into your stomach?” Macy asked.
