I giggled. “Interesting timing, don’t you think?”

Dimitri’s grin fell. “You wanted something more romantic?”

“No,” I said with a laugh. “This is perfect.”

He cocked his head, and some of his white hair shifted and hung around us like a curtain. “You haven’t answered the question.”

“Oh,” I said with a little blush. “I thought it was obvious, but yes. Yes, I’ll marry you.”

Dimitri swooped down and slanted his mouth over mine. His tongue plunged past my lips and moved against mine in the same motion as his hips as he fucked me.

“I don’t have the ring with me, but I promise after we’re done, I’ll give it to you,” Dimitri whispered as he slammed his hips against mine.

I didn’t care about the ring right then. I only cared about Dimitri and how he made me feel. We got lost in each other all night and at one point, he left to retrieve the promised ring. He slipped it on my finger and barely gave me time to admire it before he pounced on me.

Once upon a time, when I was younger, I’d always wanted to get married and have kids. That was before my mental illness took me down a long, dark path that was full of fear and pain. I once thought that nobody would ever want me because I didn’t act “normal” and would need a little extra help. When I dated, men didn’t understand me and would soon grow tired of me. Then Dimitri came into my life, and I’d never felt more loved and understood. I couldn’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together.

Iblinked open my eyes, squinting in the dark as I popped my head up and looked at the doorway. Dimitri had left the door cracked open, and a night-light in the hallway illuminated the room. Dimitri put that there for me after I’d woken up in the middle of the night and seen a shadow figure standing in our bedroom. Even though my fear of a dark room hadn’t diminished entirely, it helped a lot, as did being with my husband and mate.

A tall figure stepped through the doorway. He slicked back his dirty blond hair like he was about to go out for a night of fun.

“What are you doing here?” I grumbled, my voice thick with sleep.

“I need something to drink,” he said.

I furrowed my eyebrows and sat up. The sheets pooled around my waist, my breasts exposed in front of this stranger. Modesty was all but forgotten at the moment. Dimitri shifted in his sleep behind me.

“We’re trying to sleep,” I said.

“I’ll leave once I have something. Where are your drinks?” The man slipped his hands into his pockets, and his shoulders slackened as he gave me puppy-dog eyes.

I sighed. “Well, go to the kitchen and get it.”

“Take me there.”

“But I don’t want to leave.”

“It’ll only take a minute.”

Dimitri shifted behind me again and released a sleepy groan.

I lowered my voice and whispered, “You either get a drink and leave, or I’m going to the firehouse.”

The blond man stepped forward and heaved an annoyed sigh.

“Sunshine,” Dimitri murmured, his voice husky. “Come here.” He’d propped himself up on his elbow, his amber eyes reflecting in the sliver of light.

I looked back at the man. “I can’t help you right now. Drinks are in the fridge.”

The man threw his hands into the air. “Why can’t you just help me?”

“Sunshine,” Dimitri said firmly.

I waved the man away and turned around, curling into Dimitri’s arms. He pulled me into him, cupping my jaw and making me look at him. I had to glance past his head for a moment before I looked at his handsome face.

“Good girl,” he purred.

I smiled and wrapped an arm around his back, holding on to him. “Kiss me.”
