Inodded. “Iknow.”

Witha wave of his hands, a blue fiery wall rose around us in a magical cage, ending at the open roof, enhancing the brilliance of the stars.

Ilaughed into his chest. “Iremember this.”

“It’sa favorite memory of mine,” he remarked casually. “Lovingyou within the cage of my power is somethingIthink of often, andI’lladmit,Karus,” he whispered in my ear, sending a shiver down my neck, “I’vebeen meaning to get back to that moment.”

“Thistime with a skylight?”Iasked, working my fingers over the buttons of his vest as he unclasped my cloak.

Hechuckled softly, his warm breath pebbling my skin. “Thistime with more time and just the stars to guess at howIlove you.”

Chapter16

Rev

DawncameandItook my time loving her again.Ikissed her softly, delicately, in a sear over her skin with my promises of forever, my dedication to her body, my ode to her altar.

Herknuckles whitened as she gripped the blankets tightly in her fists, moaning my name with her face buried deep into the wool.Onmy knees,Islid my hands over her back, worshiping all of her before me, my world arching in pleasure, begging me for more.

I’dgive it.

I’dgive everythingIhad.

Ibent forward, picking up momentum and sliding my fingers underneath her body.Atmy touch, she rocked against me, guiding my fingers exactly to where she needed me.Shecalled out into the gray blankets with a muffled curse on her lips.Ileft a trail of kisses on her spine before rising up behind her once again to give my offering.

Ipressed my fingers into her hips, no longer holding back to let her pleasure build.Instead,Ilet it ignite, flare, and burn me asIlost all sense of self, of coherence, only existing in that moment where time stood still, andIworshiped her thoroughly.

Herscream of release coincided with mine, andIslumped forward, holding her body to my own for just a few moments longer, unwilling to leave her just yet.

Sheslumped forward, breathing heavily, turning and pulling me to her chest as she wrapped her long legs around me.Herlungs heaved as she smoothed the hair back from my face, tucking it behind my ear.

Iglanced upward at the broken slats to see the faintest hint of a purple sky that drove away the dark.Irested my chin on her breast, laying my kisses there, searching her face for a response.Hereyes were closed, but a smile tugged at her lips the momentIpulled her peaked flesh into my mouth.

“Howdo you find the stamina,BaronRevich?” she asked in a sultry murmur.

“I’vehad some seven years to dream up scenarios of whatI’ddo to you when you returned.”Ipressed my body into her hips, bringing myself up over her face and tracing under her lips. “Thisis just me fulfilling some of those dreams.”

Shelaughed and shook her head squinting at the sky above. “Wehave a little more time.Let’smake it count.”

Ifixedthe roof of the barn easily enough.Findinga ladder on the bottom floor,Ihauled it to the loft with some nails and a rusted mallet.Karusfell silent, brushing the bits of hay off the blankets as she lifted them high into the air then snapped them taut to fold neatly.Somethingsifted through her mind, soIwaited for her to tell me what it was.

Weheaded downstairs, checking on the horses and giving them water and some grain we’d brought with us.Themorning light lit the cold earth as we left.Awide expanse of snowless ground surrounded us in a circle around the farm and the pastures.

“Didyou see the storm leave us last night,Barons?”Sheygreeted us as we stepped into the cottage, looking for some much needed food.Shehanded us plates of eggs and toast, ushering us to the fireplace to sit nearFiguerahandNyeimah.

Figuerahswallowed a gulp of tea adding, “Yes, it’s the strangest thing,Barons.Thestorm stopped abruptly last night and leftWellynandShey’sfarm completely untouched by the cold.”ShejabbedKarusin the arm with her elbow.

“Howinteresting,”Karusmuttered through her eggs, then smiled atWellyn. “Ihope the subsiding storm allows your sheep to graze longer in the fields today.”

Herubbed his hands together, watching out the window. “Isuppose it will.Strangeweather pattern indeed.I’llhave to excuse myself and help your friend.Thesheep should be out by now.”

Icocked my head. “Friend?”Iglanced around the room, realizing who was missing. “Philius?Didyou send him out to open the back door of the barn?”

Wellynshrugged on his coat at the door. “That’sright.Thetall one with all the curls bundled at the top of his head.”

MychaeljoinedWellynat the window, already buttoning his cloak. “Heleft twenty minutes ago.”Heturned to me. “Youdidn’t see him?”
