“You can’t make that move.”
“Why not?” She pouts.
“Because you can’t. There is no such thing as sideways swipe in checkers, Tessa.”
We picked up a few board games, kid-sized shovels and pails, beverages, snacks, and a huge blanket to take with us to the beach. So far, I’ve beaten her at each game. It’s been funny, too. She’s a bit of a sore loser.
“How about we call this one a tie and find something else to do?” I question.
“Okay, but I get to choose.”
“Seems fair. What’s it gonna be?” I ask, while putting all the pieces back in the box.
She rifles through her duffle bag and pulls out a book. “Let me read to you and we relax a bit.”
I take the book from her hand and read the back cover for the blurb. “Southern Charm? Sounds like it’ll be a good read. But how about I read to you?”
“Well, it’s kinda racy at parts, a lot of parts, but if you don’t mind reading an erotic novel?”
“Come on. We’ll nibble on our snacks while you lay out and I read you a bedtime story.”
She laughs while setting up our smorgasbord. “Okay. I’ve always wanted to have a male voice to match the character.”
“Do you want me to act it out?”
“Um, no. Don’t ruin the fantasy. Just be natural.”
She lays her head back against my chest, snuggling up under my neck as I begin to read from her bookmarked location. After a few chapters, I close the book, placing it on the towel next to us.
“Why’d you stop?” she asks.
“I was just thinking about their relationship and how they were complete strangers but didn’t ignore the love that was obvious between them. Made me think of us.”
“How do we compare?”
“Not compare so much as just ignoring what’s been obvious between us for a while. But neither of us wanted to act on those feelings.”
She turns over onto her front and glances up at me through her shades. “Don’t you think it’s just a bit weird, though? I mean, my best friend is your sister, and you’ve watched us grow up together.”
“Yeah, it did feel weird at first. But I don’t know. Something about the way we looked at each other the other day, let me know you weren’t that little girl anymore. Seeing your act solidified it,” I chuckle at my last comment, when I think of how hard I got watching her body writhe on stage in the thin material that seemed like a second skin on her. The risqué acts she performed with her male and female counterparts set a sequence of thoughts racing through my mind. I was pleased to feel her act them out hours later back at my place. How she easily transitioned from position to position as we went at it throughout the night. Our bodies intertwined into shapes pretzels would be jealous of.
“Austin? Did you hear me?” she calls, snapping me back to reality.
“Huh? Oh, no. I was deep in thought.”
She slowly raises into a straddle position, and my libido immediately reacts to her sensuality.
“What were you thinking about?” She purrs softly in my ear, and trails her tongue down my neck to just under my jaw before racing to my mouth.
Her spontaneity is a delicious trait, and I don’t allow this moment to go to waste.
I’m just about to suggest we pack up and head back when she looks to me with a big smile and an agenda. She stands and takes my hand into hers, urging me to my feet. She starts walking away from the beach toward the area under the pier. Obscure from wandering eyes, but still out in public.
“What are we doing under here, Tessa?” I coyly ask, but already know the answer.
“I’ll give you one guess.”
She backs into the supporting beam and pulls me to her. My hands go to her hips and we embrace in a lover’s lip lock. Going at it hot and heavy, becoming more excited knowing that the public is a mere few feet away.
