The fact he’d remembered his promise from the night before sent shivers down my spine. Grabbing my hand, he pulled me toward the bus. As I climbed into a spot at the back, he dumped his jacket on the seat across the aisle and slid into the seat next to mine. “I can’t sit next toyou,Zoe.”
“Whynot?”
“Youknowwhy.”
I shrugged. “Sorry, you’velostme.”
He wound a hand into the hair at the nape of my neck and pulled me roughly toward him, his lips crushing against mine as he slid his tongue deep into my mouth. Just as abruptly, hepulledaway.
“That’s why,” he said through a heavybreath.
I gasped. “No funny business onthebus.”
“This is a G-rated bus,” Dee called from the seat in front, making everyone laugh and whistle. Bob thumped his fist down on the horn, and we collapsed against each other, unable to control ourlaughter.
So this was what being happy was like. It was a nice feeling, and I hoped it was going to stay around for awhile.
I really needed it tostick.
