Marini snarled and waved the gun at me. “In the two fucking seconds she’s been here, she’s made an enemy out of Harley, threatened me, and showed a weakness foryou.”
“I can see the parallels,” I drawled. “Difficult was an understatement when I went to gether.”
“Shut the hell up with your clever words,” he snapped. “Did you fuck my daughter,Chaser?”
“Iwish.”
Marini’s expression dropped, and the room went silent. We were the only two fuckers in it, but it was like the air turned cold and someone pressed the mute button. He was holding a gun and had a reputation for using it—as recently as the day before I left to get Sloane. I noticed the plaster had beenrepaired.
“She’s back in her old room for now,” he said after a moment. “What happens next depends on her attitude…andyours.”
“I delivered her,” I said. “My involvement in her fate hasceased.”
“Just like that, eh?” He was baiting me like a dog, waiting for me to take a bite out ofhim.
“What are you going to do about the Hollow Men?” I asked instead. The million-dollar question. My thirst for revenge had doubled now. Madison and Sloane. “They won’t stop. You knowthat.”
Marini wasn’t having it, though. “You’re damaged goods, Chaser. Don’t ask me questions until you can walk on that leg and not twitch. I saw you twitch when you walked in. Get the fuck out of my sight.” He waved the gun at me, his finger leaving thetrigger.
I wasn’t dying at the hands of the president of Fortitude MC today, and neither was Sloane. Tomorrow was a differentstory.
Leaving Marini and his bloodthirsty tendencies behind, I went to my room. A tiny hole with a bed, a window, and not much else. When I opened the door, I saw my bag sitting just inside. Closing myself in the room I’d called my prison cell for the past seven years, a wave of exhaustion finally smacked me in theface.
I collapsed, my vision slipping before my head even hit the pillow. My last thought was ofSloane.
