“So I keep getting told.” After a long pause, I gesture awkwardly. “So?”

“So… what?” Bellamy snaps, not understanding what I’m asking.

“I’m pretty sure she’s wondering why you’re here.” Kai’s voice immediately behind me startles me, not having paid attention to him or Preston when I came out into the hall.

“I knew there was some shit going on behind the scenes seeing as how a human knows about witches.” Bellamy glares at Preston as if it’s his fault he isn’t a witch. “And I was trying to figure out what. I’m assuming you’re the mysterious Kai?”

Swallowing, I try to move the lump that’s forming in my throat at Bellamy’s nosy question.

“Why does that matter?” Preston questions in confusion, glancing at the last remaining contestant of the show.

"Because I can show that Porter's a cheat," Bellamy counters, continuing his glaring. "Hoped you didn't like your job, Preston."

"You wouldn't," I challenge quietly.

What the hell is this dick's problem?

You'd think some good pussy would mellow his hatred out but now I'm wondering just how high the wand stuck up his ass is.

"Then tell me who Kai is, because if you're getting outside magical help for this competition—"

"His magic isn't helping with the competition."

"Then how'd he know you were in trouble?"

"Because we're bonded!" I finally shout, growing too tired of the interrogations I'd been dealing with the last few days.

Something passes over Bellamy's face, a flash of what looked like hurt but is replaced almost immediately with a harsh frown. He doesn't say anything, turning on his heel and storming from the house.

I should have let him go, should have let the Putnam's live their life and the Porter's have theirs...

Except, for whatever reason I find myself chasing after him.

"Bellamy, wait!" I call, darting down drive in a poor attempt to catch up to him and his mile-long legs.

"What?" he hisses, stopping reluctantly when I yank on his arm. He angles his head to signify he’s listening but still won’t look at me.

"It's not what you think—"

"No? So you're not fucking a fellow witch you're magically bonded too?" It’s clear in his tone he knows the answer already.

"Jesus, Putnam, it just happened after the first trial. It's not like I set out to find a witch to be bonded to. I didn't even know it was happening until it was over," I whisper sharply, jabbing him in the arm with my finger. "So don't stand there and lecture me."

"You chased after me, remember?" he counters coldly.

"Because you wanted to know who Kai is. He's Binx," I admit. This time Bellamy does turn to look at me, skepticism blanketing his features.

"Your familiar that the network got you? Do you really expect me to believe—"

"He's Tituba's son. There was some fuck up during the first trial and somehow he got shifted back."

At that little tidbit, Bellamy doesn't say anything. He just stares, no doubt trying to figure out if what I’m saying is true.

Only I would have the most complicated dating history known to Salem.

"And Preston?" Bellamy challenges, redirecting the conversation. "How does he play into your… bonding?"

Is he… jealous?
